How to beat Giovanni
First of all, keep in mind the two normal tips for taking down Team GO Rocket leaders. First of all, you have to focus on eliminating both of their shields. They'll use them for your first two charged attacks, and you'll deal a lot more damage once they're gone. If you have an attacker with a fast charge move, you can use them right away if you find Giovanni particularly difficult. Also, there is a delay in their attacks when you switch characters, so opening up with your second or third Pokemon and dismissing them as soon as the battle begins can give you the advantage. Now let's move on to the best counters of Giovanni's team.
Giovanni will be using a team of Persian, Sandslash, Mewtwo who may not seem that difficult but can be a real challenge for players. Persian is a normal type Pokémon, so fighting is the way to go here. Either Machamp, Lucario or Hariyama are good bets. Once he switches to the Sandslash ground-type character, you'll want either grass or water as a counter. Upgrade to Kyogre, Swampert, Tangrowth, or Venusaur here. When the real battle begins against Mewtwo, you had better have both of his shields gone and one of your own or a strong team to the left. The best counters against him are dark or ghost type, so a solid Mewtwo of your choice isn't a bad idea. Otherwise, an attacking Dark Tyranitar will do, or maybe Gengar or Weavile.
