Resident Evil 3 - How to combine herbs

Use green herbs alone for minor healing, or combine them with other herbs to increase the effect.

Green herbs are the most common healing resource you'll find in Resident Evil 3, although they don't heal much. Jill Valentine doesn't have a traditional health bar, and instead she switches between distress states, indicated by a heart rate sensor in the inventory screen. When he's red and says Danger, she's close to death, and she'll twitch in pain and walk with a limp in the game.

Green grass on its own will propel her into a state, but you won't be fully healed unless you've used it while her pulse was green (which is a waste of weed). The trick is to combine herbs for stronger care. This will require spare inventory space, so smart use of your item box in safe rooms is crucial.

There are two colors of herbs in Resident Evil 3: green and red. Green heals and red acts as a reminder. Up to three green herbs can be combined at a time, although each takes up a single inventory slot until you mix them together.

The combinations are therefore:

  • Green Grass x2 - High Potency Healing (can turn you from critical to good, but won't necessarily heal you fully)
  • Green Grass x3 - Maximum Potency Healing (will heal you at maximum health, but burns through your green herb supply)
  • Green Grass + Red Grass - Maximum Potency Healing (the most effective blend for healing, although red herbs are harder to find than green herbs)

Combining the herbs is done in your inventory (you cannot combine items from your item box, or through both in Resident Evil 3), once you have the herbs in hand, all you need to do is combine the herbs. do is select the first herb you want to mix and then “Combine”. From here, only the herbs that can be mixed will be highlighted and you can choose which ones you want. You can also do this with existing mixes, assuming there is room for another herb.

Using three green herbs to fully heal should really only be done as a last ditch maneuver. A double cure with green herbs is usually enough to get you out of a jam, and you really want to save one green herb for every red herb you find.
