Sky Q: what is it?
Defining what SkyQ is may not be easy, because it really is a lot of things together. We will therefore try to be as clear and exhaustive as possible. As anticipated, it is a digital ecosystem that greatly expands the entertainment possibilities of subscribers, allowing them to autonomously manage the television schedule or to take advantage of the multiscreen viewing if necessary.
All this is possible thanks to a Set-top-box with advanced features, which far exceeds those of a traditional decoder. This boasts not only a satellite multi-tuner, but also a quadruple tuner for digital terrestrial and access to the Internet both via cable and via Wi-Fi. To meet your needs perfectly, Sky offers two versions: the Sky Q Platinum and the Sky Q Black.
To ensure an innovative entertainment experience, a series of other devices are associated with this latest generation decoder:
- Sky Q Mini, i.e. satellite devices that connect to the set-top-box via wi-fi, allowing you to multiply the viewing of a program on multiple screens at the same time - up to a maximum of 4 - within the same home
- Sky SoundBox, an audio speaker designed to ensure maximum enjoyment of the proposed contents
- Bluetooth remote controls, able to facilitate the user's viewing experience. Comfortable and practical, they do not have to be pointed towards the set-top-box, but can be conveniently used through the appropriate voice commands.
How does SkyQ work?
First of all we have to clarify one thing. To ensure its functioning, this new Sky digital system must be connected to two different sources in order to ensure the use of the contents: the dish and the Internet connection (ADSL or Fiber). To make the television schedule visible, however, the set-top-box can be connected to a television or monitor via the HDMI input. And it is precisely this latest generation decoder that is the "heart" of the entire Sky D digital ecosystem.
Within the system, each action can be managed through asimple and intuitive interface, where you will have the opportunity to view the list of channels of your subscription and those of digital terrestrial, facilitated functions for registration, and even a section dedicated to applications such as DAZN or Spotify. From here you can also access "My Q“, A super personalized section where you will find your favorite programs and contents, as well as a series of suggestions based on your tastes and interests.
The functionalities offered by the platform are absolutely interesting, able to truly ensure a new entertainment experience. First of all, the possibility of viewing the contents in 4K HDR, then that of being able to return to the beginning of a program even if already on air (Restart) or to view the contents continuously (AutoPlay). All in a simple and fast way, always passing from the same interface.
SkyQ Black or Platinum: what's the difference?
As anticipated, Sky offers the possibility to choose between two different types of top-set-boxes, the SkyQ Black and the SkyQ Platinum. But what are the substantial differences between the two? Let's see it right away.
La Platinum is a full-feature version, which features ben 12 tuner – 4 of which for recordings and 5 for live channels -, a 2 TB hard disk and support for viewing digital terrestrial content. This is top-set-box compatible with SkyQ Mini devices, which allow multi-screen viewing of content via wireless.
La Black, on the other hand, it is the more "contained" version: 8 tuner, 1 TB of memory and no connection possible with wireless devices in the digital entertainment ecosystem. A latest generation decoder, yes, but especially suitable for those who have basic needs and want to watch their favorite programs on their home TV only. The choice is yours. Depending on your needs, you can easily choose a different Sky instrument.
How much does SkyQ cost?
Decoders with different characteristics impose different costs, this is quite clear. Despite this, there are some features the two top-set-boxes have in common: 4K HDR content, voice control, and support for Sky on Demand and Sky Fiber. Beyond these, it is clear that the two decoders guarantee you different entertainment experiences. That's why they have different costs.
If you choose to have it at home Sky Q Black, you will find yourself paying a monthly subscription of €24,90 for the first twelve months (after which, the cost of the service will become € 43,39). Conversely, for SkyQ Platinum you will be charged a monthly cost of € 39,90 for the first year (after which, you will be charged € 58,39). In short, different costs for different services, especially if you consider that the full-feature version ensures you a truly unique entertainment experience.
