Samsung Galaxy S10e review: compact is better?

I didn't get my hands on a top of the range Samsung for a long time, but it only took a few minutes to appreciate this Galaxy S10e. IS responsive, versatile and unusually compact. In a market made up of devices that abundantly exceed 6 inches, the Korean giant gives us a 5,8 "which, in the long run, is extraordinarily comfortable in everyday use. Of course, this small top of the range has some flaws: we talk about them in this review.

Compact is better

As I mentioned above, Samsung Galaxy S10e is an extraordinarily compact device, in contrast with the competition and even with the other devices of the Galaxy family. A defect? Absolutely not: ergonomics are really extreme. Galaxy S10e is so pleasant in everyday use, perfect for any type of pocket and hand.

Two further elements struck me during the test: the yellow color, exclusive of this model and truly unique, e the fingerprint reader located on the right profile and integrated in the on / off button. Maybe I would have placed it slightly lower, but anyway after a few days you will get used to it.

On the left we find the volume rocker and the button dedicated to Bixby, while the upper profile houses the slot for the two SIMs, one of which can be sacrificed in favor of a microSD. On the lower side we find the 3,5 mm jack, the USB-C for charging and the speaker.

Finally we have the display, a 5,8-inch Dynamic AMOLED with Full HD resolution and a small hole on the right. Needless to say, it's a great screen, with vibrant colors, HDR10 support, and truly convincing brightness in any situation. The plus then is to look for all those backgrounds that hide the aforementioned hole: practically my new hobby.

Samsung Galaxy S10e is a real top of the range: the Exynos processor, 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory allow you to perform any task excellently, including gaming. Then there is the support a DeX, especially ideal for those who work with a smartphone.

Excellent connectivity and reception, while the battery limps. The 3100 mAh does not guarantee coverage for the whole day, at least in the face of medium or even intense use. In short, among the variants of the S10 this is probably the least suitable for geeks.

The software, on the other hand, is the same seen on the older brothers, including that side menu notoriously associated with edge displays. There are many functions available, including game launcher and Bixby, in addition to a graphic interface that is finally elegant and clean.

A real guarantee

You don't need millions of megapixels to get quality photos. Google's Pixel 3 still demonstrates this today, but even Samsung seems determined to pursue this path. The main sensor of Galaxy S10e is in fact from 12 megapixels, with variable aperture - from f / 1.5 to f / 2.4 - and the ability to guarantee really excellent shots in any light conditions, also thanks to the excellent night mode.

Also present a second rear camera, a 16 megapixel wide angle that gives convincing photographs and that will come in handy in more than one situation.

What is missing? Well, no telephoto lens but all in all it's not a great waiver.

Well finally too videos, in 4K and 60 fps, really beautiful and stabilized, as well as the 10 megapixel front camera which also provides the bokeh effect.

Samsung Galaxy S10e: buy it or not?

Samsung Galaxy S10e is the top of the range that was missing. Not for performance, build quality or camera rendering, but for cost. With his 779 € (but on Amazon you can find it even less) reports the devices in this range at a price that is certainly more affordable than the over 1000 euros to which all manufacturers have accustomed us a little over the last two years.

To distinguish it then we also think about the size: its compactness makes it truly unique, suitable for all those who want something lighter and more manageable than all the other devices or the other members of the S10 series.
