While the lo-fi graphic style may lead you to believe that the 1GB world of Valheim is a snap, it doesn't necessarily have to be. Granted, this works relatively well for an Early Access title, but getting a consistent 60fps can be hard earned.
Fortunately, the Valheim subroutine does Odin's job by describing a simple method to improve performance issues. User RustyB3yrs presented a simple 3-step process to bring that framerate back to the desired territory. Given the positive reception in his thread, it looks like noticeable FPS gains are usually the end result.
Follow the performance guide below if the lush forests of Valheim are wreaking havoc on your rig.
How to increase performance in Valheim
Step 1 - Edit the configuration file
- Aller vers
- For those with multiple drives, replace (C? With the drive hosting your game installations.
- Right click on the startup configuration file and open with Notepad
- Add the following lines at the top of the document:
- gfx-enable-gfx-jobs = 1
- gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs = 1
- Save the changes and close the file
Step 2 - Set the launch options
- Right click on Valheim in the Steam app and select Properties
- On the General tab, enter the following in the Launch options box
- -window-mode-exclusive
Step 3 - Set the priority
- Open Task Manager and find valheimin the Processes tab
- It appears as valheim (2) in the list, so click on the drop-down arrow to reveal the basic valheim entry
- Right click on valheim and select Go to Details
- On the Details tab, right click on valheim.exe and set the priority to High
- This step must be performed Everytime the game is launched
There are a few things to note before returning to exploring Valheim. If you are having artifact or lighting issues, remove "gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs = 1" from step 1. If you are an IT expert, the Reddit thread linked above includes tips on how to make step 3 permanent. .
