Valheim: How to create an army of killer wolves to destroy everything for you

Wolves are difficult creatures that only appear in the Mountain biome. Wolves are extremely fast, so catching one can be a bit tricky. Wolves also eat raw meat - and they will hunt on their own. Once you start taming wolves, they can breed like crazy. They will eat everything on the island, take down the monsters, and spawn while they are satisfied.

Wolves are a bit more difficult to deal with than wild boars, so let's talk about how to tame these killer creatures.

    How to tame wolves

Taming wolves is very similar to taming wild boars - you just need to lure the wolves into an enclosed space and feed them Raw meat. There are additional challenges when it comes to wolves. So let's go over the basics.

    • Tame wolves, you have to feed them Raw meat. They only eat when they're not in a state of aggro - so you can't stay right next to them.
    • Lots of wolves spawns only at night. They will disappear during the day if you get too far away from them.
    • Wolves that spawn at night will eat only at night.
    • Wolves can only be found in the Mountain Biome. Drakes will also attempt to kill wolves regardless of their condition.
    • To tame wolves you will want to build a small enclosure and throw in raw meat inside. About 10 to 12 should be enough. Build a roof to protect the wolf from drake attacks.

Make sure you stand far enough away that you don't trigger aggro on the wolf, and try to stay close enough to the wolf that it doesn't disappear. As long as you are in sight, you are fine. Hover over the wolf to check its status.

Don't worry, your future the little ones will not disappear. But you will have to wait a long time to have these little ones.

    How to breed wolves

Just like wild boars, you will need to tame two wolves. Feed the two wolves so that they have “Happy” status, and they will be open to breeding. Two tame "happy" wolves can spawn, but it's totally random. And with the wolves you've tamed, you run their luck disappear.

Another annoyance - the tame wolves that spawned at night only eat at night. So you will have to wait sitting next to a wolf for a full day cycle if it is daylight, which is usually the case. This part of the process takes forever. You will need to keep the tame wolves in an enclosure.

You can also raise Wolves 2 stars, and their baby cub will also have 2 étoiles. This means that they are much more powerful, but these wolves will still only spawn at night, making them difficult to breed. All Night Wolves will also disappear if you get too far away.

Wolves 2 stars are not guaranteed to give birth to Small 2 stars. There is about a 50/50 chance they will be one Cub 1 star. It's still much stronger than a normal wolf, so it's not a bad result.

    • NOTE: Cubs from the night wolves do not disappear. The original wolves will eventually disappear when you leave the area, but the Cubs will stay forever.

Once you have your wolves, you can either let them breed on their own or keep them in a cage. You can take up to four to follow you anywhere - and they can get on boats, but it takes a bit of extra work to get them on board.

The unleashed wolves will breed. They will hunt and eat animals - after eating the raw meat, they will have "Happy" status. Before long, your island will be overrun with howling wolves. If it's a future that looks cool to you, I'm telling you, go for it. Otherwise, you can limit yourself to 1 to 4 dogs.
