At the start of Temtem, you have to choose from three starters, Crystle, Smazee, and Houchic. The three are of different types, have different stats, and special benefits.
Crystle
Crystle is a type of crystal and evolves into Sherald at level 30. Crystal types are effective against electric and mental types, but are ineffective against the Fire and Earth types. They take less damage electrical, mental and toxic types, but take more damage Fire, Earth and Melee type.

Crystle has a good mix of offensive and defensive stats, but more importantly, is resistant to Electric types and deals more damage to them. This resistance is important early in the game, as electric types are quite common in the current version of the game.
Smazee
Smazee is a melee type and evolves into Baboong at level 30. Melee types are effective against Earth and crystal types, but are ineffective against mental types. Melee types take less damage other types of melee, but take more damage of the Mental and Digital types.

Smazee has excellent attack stats but isn't very effective early in the game due to the lack of early crystal and earth types in the current build.
Houchic
Houchic is a Mental type and evolves into Tental at level 30. Mental types are effective against Neutral and Melee types and are ineffective against crystal types. Mental types take less damage Neutral and melee types but take more damage electric, digital and crystal types.

Houchic struggles early in the game until he gains additional abilities, and lower HP is a hindrance.
Where the game is right now, we think Crystle is the best Temtem starter. Not only does he have good attack and defense stats for the start of the game, but he's also strong against one type of play early on, so he should be fairly forgiving when players are learning to play.
