Hitman 3 will be the grand finale of IO Interactive's World of Assassination trilogy. The team took Agent 47 back to its roots in the game Hitman 2016, giving players the chance to show off their creativity as an unorthodox assassin connoisseur. You donned a variety of disguises and used almost anything you could grab in the environment to take out your target. Hitman 2 featured Ghost Mode, a competitive multiplayer match where two players had to compete to prove who the more capable killer was. Unfortunately, multiplayer will not return in Hitman 3.
There will be small pockets of multiplayer in Hitman 3, but nothing like it in Hitman 2 where you went straight up against another player. There will be contracts available that you accept that were created by IO Interactive and other members of the Hitman community where you attempt to eliminate the target in accordance with the requirements of the contract. Your goal is to receive the highest score at the end of the contract and be the best player on the leaderboard. Ghost mode will not return, and IO Interactive has said it plans to shut it down permanently.
IO Interactive confirmed in a blog post that it plans to keep Ghost mode for good. It will not be available in Hitman 3, and the ghost mode servers in Hitman 2 will be closed on August 31. While the team writes that they've learned a lot from Ghost Mode, it doesn't look like it's the biggest hit, especially if they don't plan to bring it back for Game 3. It looks like Hitman 2016 will be a lot more of a single player experience, which might be more fitting. The XNUMX Hitman was that. The development team feels like they're going back to their original ideas for Hitman, cutting out the excess fat and sticking to the meat of the series.
Hitman 3 will be released in January 2021 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Google Stadia, and PC as an Epic Games Store exclusive. Hitman 3 will arrive on Steam in January 2022.
