Baldur's Gate 3 character creation guide: best classes, skills and abilities

It sounds difficult on paper, but this process is actually a lot of fun. Plus, we've got you covered with this handy guide. Here's everything you need to know about character creation in Baldur's Gate 3.

Origin

le Origin is where you can choose the origin of your character and Context. In Early Access, the only Origin available is " CustomsSo you will have to create your own character from scratch with no preset starting point. After entering your character's name in the text field below, it's time to choose your background. Your experience will grant you skill into two skills, which you can see listed under Background features section. Having mastery of a skill means you get a bonus, so pick a background that matches well with the skills you want to use. Thieves may want to choose Criminal for the Deception et Stealthy bonus, while a Fighter could choose the weld Context for acquiring skills in Athletics et Intimidation.

It's a pretty big choice, but it's not as important as some of the choices you'll make later in character creation. Pick the one that you think will suit your playstyle. If you like to play stealth, choose a background that features stealth skills. If you want to become a mage, choose a background with Arcana skill.

Courses

There are eight Groceries and multiple sub-couplings to choose from in Baldur's Gate 3, and race actually has several effects on your character's stats and skills. If you want to be a Grandmother (North Wales) then, of course, choose a dwarf, but just be aware that there are specific stat and skill upgrades that you might miss out on by not choosing another race. Elves are great with bows and have bonuses to their dexterity, for example. Any race can excel in any role, but if you're the type of player who likes to minimize and extract all possible stat points from character creation, then you'll want to choose your race carefully.

If you don't know any of the terms this game uses, just hover your mouse over the name of the skill or feature in the game for a helpful explanation of what it does. Pay attention to every race Base racial speed, as some of them are inherently faster or slower than others and can move farther per turn.

Class

There are six main Classes to choose from in Baldur's Gate 3, but each class has a handful of subclasses that allow you to specialize even more. This is the most important choice when creating the character, as it will affect your character's play. the Clerc uses divine magic, the Fighter is your traditional sword class, the Cleaning is the distance arc class, and the Naughty is the sneaky stealth class. The difference between warlock et Wizard may be difficult to understand at first for players new to role-playing games like this, but the wizard is your traditional class using magic with flowing robes that studies different schools of magic as the warlock engages in more corrupted and destructive magic and uses it for more nasty purposes.

The chosen class will determine the poor, armor, and skills that you'll be using throughout your game, so choose wisely. If you choose a class using magic like the Wizard, be sure to pick your favorite starting spells. If you are a beginner, try it Fighter ou Cleaning. These are the more traditional classes on the list and excel in melee and ranged respectively. If you choose Clerc, you will be asked to choose a Diet, but this choice does not affect much. Sometimes you'll get unique dialogue options based on your deity, but these are few and far between.

skills

skills , you can choose two skills to master in addition to the ones you already master due to your Courses ou Class. You can see all of your current skills on the left side of the screen under your capacity and information about the characters. You can select the two skills you want to add to your skills on the right side of the screen. Just choose the one you like. There are no wrong answers here. If you can't decide then Athletics, Perception, and Survival are good to have.

capacity

Baldur's Gate 3 automatically chooses and assigns your Ability points for you. It is strongly recommended that you leave this as is if you are a beginner player. If you are an RPG expert, feel free to edit and make changes as you see fit. Once you hit a certain threshold for certain abilities, you will need to start spending multiple ability points to level up. Don't put all of your points in one ability unless you really know what you're doing. If you make any changes but aren't happy with how you ended up, just click the blue " Recommended use”To return to the default point distribution.

Who are you dreaming of?

This is definitely the strangest part of character creation in Baldur's Gate 3. After selecting your character's race, skills, and abilities, the game asks you a personal question. Who are you dreaming of? Who attracts you? It's not a trick question or anything. The game really wants you to design your dream romantic partner. No one really knows what that is for yet, but this character will more than likely make an appearance in the story at some point.

But don't think too much about it. Just make the prettiest girl or the hottest guy you can. You have the same set of character creation tools that you created your own character, so you should already have a feel for how everything works. However, you won't have to choose a class or skills for this character. After confirming your character's appearance and that character's appearance, you will be placed in the prologue to Baldur's Gate 3.

Baldur's Gate 3 is now available on PC and Google Stadia. The game is currently in Early Access with a full release planned after at least a year of Early Access development.
