How to get the asterisk from Vanguard and White Mage
At the start of your journey, you're tasked with saving a kidnapped Gloria, one of the actual party members, who happens to be a princess (of course). Two individuals, Dag and Selene, act as mercenaries and proceed to take Gloria for their own reasons. As you progress through this task of collecting it, you find yourself in one of the prologue dungeons, the first to be exact, that you go through to find them. Therefore, there is not a lot of information needed when it comes to tips here, as this is your main quest, in order to progress further, which happens very early in the game.
As you would have guessed by now, these two are the owners of the two asterisks we are looking for, the White Mage and the Vanguard. Once you find them at the very end of the brief dungeon, you engage in a tag battle with them and the very first boss fight begins. Luckily you have Gloria's bodyguard next to you, the legendary Sir Sloan, who can heal your party and deal heavy damage in turn. Essentially this makes the fight easier than it should be, but be careful as they hit hard, especially Dag.
For what is worth it, I suggest you focus on Selene first, as she can heal the party and improve Dag considerably. Having said that, after winning the fight, the two asterisks leave the disaster duo and come into your possession. The White Mage and Vanguard are unlocked and you can now use them as primary or secondary work. I'm pretty sure the specific combination was made on purpose by the developers, since Vanguard / White Mage or vice versa is actually a great starter combo for one of your characters. Enjoy!
