Yes you will. The answer came from Swen Vincke, the creative director of Larian Studios, the developer behind Baldur's Gate 3. Vincke explained the answer in a Reddit AMA he hosted to discuss the game with eager fans. One of the audience asked, “How will multiclassification work? Like 5th or modified? "
"The multiclass rule will follow closely the 5th NDD," said Vincke. "At higher level, characters will be able to continue with their current class or choose a new class, provided they meet the requirements."
So for players trying to figure out what they want to do for their Baldur's Gate 3 characters, you need to plan things out a bit. You can't just immerse your character in magic if your character doesn't qualify for a level in the Wizard or Warlock category. Before leveling up or taking a level with your character, you need to spend some time thinking about the points and the choices you want to make.
While it's not a simple choice that you get every time your character level up, it's a lot easier than having to meet an NPC who can provide you with the knowledge. Everyone will have the opportunity to level up. You don't have to choose a different class with your character. Baldur's Gate 3 is slated for release in late 2020 or early 2021 on PC and Google Stadia. The game will first have early access to give players a chance to try it out before its release.
