Everything you need to know about Risk of Rain 2 - 1.0

In case you missed it, Risk of Rain 2 is leaps and bounds above its predecessor. It takes Hopoo Games' 2013 sci-fi masterpiece Risk of Rain has done so well - giving players a complex and addicting cooperative roguelike - to the next level with a 3D engine and equally robust gameplay and stimulating.

This third-person shooter has been available in Early Access for PC and consoles since March 2019, but the full version is just around the corner. Version 1.0 will launch on August 11, 2020, at least for PC gamers.

Updating the PC will also lead to a price hike. It's currently available on Steam for $ 19,99 but will be bumped to $ 25 on August 11. Console versions (which might one day even get cross-play available between the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch) currently sell for $ 30.

Console gamers will receive Update 1.0 later at a currently undetermined date, but the full version promises to include tons of new content and make the game even better.

A new survivor

In addition to the 9 courses already available in Risk of Rain 2, update 1.0 will introduce a new class, the Captain. The captain will be able to act as both a DPS and a utility character. The captain embarks a powerful shotgun and will be able to call in his own unique delivery ship, the ESU Safe Travels, which will be able to deploy probes and beacons that can support his team with various buffs.

A new stage and a final boss

By completing the eight main stages of Risk of Rain 2 will be a new stage - the Moon. In this new stage, you will also be able to fight the real final boss of the game alongside tons of lunar monsters. Hopoo Games has yet to say what the real final boss is, but we're going to guess it's going to be a doozy.

Other novelties

It's not just the monsters that have new tools at their disposal. Update 1.0 will also introduce two new items that players can use: a super massive leech and the Molten puncher. The Super Massive Leech, as you might have guessed, can literally suck life out of enemies, and the Molten Perforator can potentially launch magma balls when you strike.

On top of all of this - and in addition to new skills that can be unlocked by completing various challenges - update 1.0 will have improved matchmaking functionality. With the new Server Browser feature, you will be able to easily search or create Dedicated Servers with customizable settings.

Again, console gamers will have to wait a little longer to get this meaty 1.0 update, but Risk of Rain 2's change to Early Access promises to give gamers even more sci-fi goodness to contend with. Hopoo Games has shown that they have made the most of the Early Access period with many incremental improvements. They have also been exceptionally good at communicating with fans and continue to do so to their Discord. The final class, the captain, was even chosen by a fan poll. You can get in on the action right now before version 1.0 officially launches on PC on August 11 by purchasing the game through Steam.
