Materia is simple - the more you use it and the more you equip it, the more points you will earn. Weapon skills only increase when you complete a special challenge, so they're much trickier. Really, weapon skills are much easier and faster to achieve if you know exactly how these challenges work.

    17 report - Weapon abilities

    • Acquire all 16 weapon abilities.
    • New Materia: Skill Master Materia

    Cloud weapons:

Buster Sword Skill: Use the Focused Thrust ability! It is that simple.

Skill of the Iron Blade: Use Triple Slash to hit three (or more) enemies. Very simple. You will get skills in any battle against 3+ enemies using the Triple Slash ability.

Nail Bats Skill: Use Disorder in combat in Operator mode. You'll automatically switch to Punisher mode using the mess ability - hit an enemy in your new mode before switching manually.

Hard Edge Skill: Build your ATB to the max, then unleash the Infinity's End ability on a staggered opponent. You will have to use it on tough enemies, which you will come across a lot in Chapter 14.

Mithril Saber Skill: Use the Blade Burst ability to defeat an enemy. Get an enemy with low health, then free Blade Burst to finish him off.

Twin Stinger Skill: The Counter Position ability puts Cloud in a guard position. Any attack will launch a very powerful auto counter - yes, that includes magic attacks and elemental abilities. To gain skill, use Counterstance and launch counterattacks.

    Barred weapons:

Gatling gun skill: Use the concentrated fire ability to take down an enemy. Concentrated fire greatly increases lag, and it becomes more powerful if you use concentrated fire with your ATB gauge full.

Light machine gun skill: The Lifesaver ability forces Barret to absorb all damage taken by your allies. Use Lifesaver and let an ally take damage to gain skill. You will only gain a skill once per activation of Lifesaver. In a long fight, you can use it multiple times to gain skill.

Competence of steel pliers: The Charge Uppercut ability uses 1 ATB, but it will also recharge your ATB if you get a good hit. To gain proficiency with this weapon, you will need to fill up your ATB gauge (2 ATB), use 1 ATB to activate the Uppercut charge, then land it to regain 1 ATB. You will gain skill by completely filling your ATB meter.

Demolition skills: Very simple. The Wrecking Ball is a powerful ground slam that causes a large explosion that affects nearby enemies. Use it in the center of a group of 3+ enemies to gain skill.

ECG gun skill: Use the point blank ability to kill an enemy. You have to score the killing blow with the ability - Point Blank, like Focused Shot, can use 1 ATB or 2 ATB depending on your meter. Use a fully charged white dot to deal even more damage!

    Tifa weapons:

Mastery of Leather Gloves: Another simple. Use Divekick to kill an enemy. Lower their health and use Divekick to finish them. Works on weak enemies, as Divekick is a fairly fast move.

Skill in Metal Knuckles: After using the Overkill ability, enter a standard attack combo (square). Don't use Tifa (Triangle) 's unique attacks!

Sonic Strikers Compétence: This load strike damages Stagger. Use it to deliver the final blow that staggers an enemy. Very easy for weak enemies.

Mastery of Feathered Gloves: The Starshower ability launches a series of furious punches. Fill your ATB to the max, use Starshower, then use any offensive spell or ability. Anything that damages is powered by Starshower.

Mithril Claw Mastery: Incredibly simple. Just use Chi Trap to hit an enemy. You will gain skill for each chi trap that damages an enemy.

Proficiency in purple pain: Use True Strike on a staggered enemy. You don't even need to stagger them. Simply use this weapon's ability on a staggering enemy.

    Aerith Weapons:

Guard Staff Skill: Simply use the Arcane Ward ability, then have an ally use a magic spell. You can only acquire the skill once per Arcane Ward summon.

Staff competence Silver: Use the Witch Storm ability to hit three enemies at the same time. Run to the center of the battle and unleash your attack.

Arcane Scepter Skill: Summon an instant familiar, then use a spell or ability. The pet will launch a follow-up attack after using offensive magic. As long as you are not interrupted, you can acquire skills for each pet.

Mithril Rod Skill: Use the Ray of Judgment ability on a staggering enemy. Very simple.

Blade stick Compétence: Use the Glossy Shield to strike an enemy. "Hit" counts as an enemy hitting the shield. You can only acquire skills once per shield activation.

Reinforced staff Compétence: Just like the Arcane Ward, you must summon an ATB Ward, then have an ally use an ability / spell while standing on the Ward.
