Umbral Tree Guide - Which Should You Choose?
In case you don't know how to access the umbrella tree in the first place, it can be done from the level selection card. Just press X when you are here and it will bring you to the screen. Once you are in the tree, you will notice that there are 25 different orbs on the tree for you to select. However, you can't just pick one from the tree to start with, but rather start from the bottom and work your way up either side. To get started, we'll list each of the upgrades you can get from the tree and their Umbral Bee cost.
- Thunderstorm I (1 Umbrella Bee) - Summon the power of thunder over Arthur's body to unleash a hailstorm of bolts in four directions.
- Firewall I (1 Umbral Bee) - Lights two walls of flame to Arthur's left and right.
- Emboulden I (3 Shadow Bees) - Temporarily transforms into a small boulder. Roll to crush enemies.
- Transmogrifrog I (3 Shadow Bees) - Turns all enemies onscreen into frogs. Ineffective against bosses or large monsters.
- Boxer Boxers (3 Umbral Bees) - Triples the power of Arthur's first attack after being stripped of his boxers.
- Medusa I (3 Shadow Bees) - Temporarily turns enemies onscreen to stone, making them climbable. Only effective on small enemies. Enemies defeated in this state will occasionally drop items.
- Doppelganger I (4 Umbrella Bees) - Temporarily reproduces a mirror image of Arthur who will join him in attacking.
- Firewall II (4 Umbrella Bees) - Lights two towering flame walls to Arthur's left and right.
- Thunderstorm II (4 Umbrella Bees) - Summon the power of thunder over Arthur's body to unleash a hailstorm of bolts in all directions.
- Equip I (5 Umbrella Bees) - Increase inventory space to carry two weapons at once. Change weapon equipped with X.
- Resurrection I (5 Shadow Bees) - Grants a chance to be resurrected after falling in combat.
- Quickening I (5 Umbral Bees) - Speed up Arthur's movements for a while.
- Transmogrifog II (10 Shadow Bees) - Turn all enemies on screen, including large monsters, into frogs. Ineffective against bosses.
- Medusa II (10 Shadow Bees) - Temporarily turns enemies onscreen to stone, making them climbable. Also affects mid-level enemies. Enemies will stay in this state longer and sometimes drop items when defeated.
- Eye of Treasure I (10 Umbrella Bees) - Displays clues to where treasure chests can, with the correct deed, appear on screen.
- Quick Cast (10 Shadow Bees) - Reduces the charge required when casting a spell.
- Treasure Eye II (12 Umbrella Bees) - Reveals a hidden treasure chest.
- Umbral Net (12 Umbral Bees) - Cast a magic net to catch all Umbral and Money Bees on the screen.
- Doppelganger II (13 Umbrella Bees) - Temporarily reproduces two mirror images of Arthur who will join him in attacking.
- Quickening II (13 Umbral Bees) - Speed up Arthur's movements for a longer period of time.
- Emboulden II (13 Umbrella Bees) - Temporarily transforms into a large boulder. Attack and defense are improved during transformation.
- Equip II (15 Umbrella Bees) - Increase inventory space to carry three weapons at a time. Change weapon equipped with X.
- Thunderstorm III (20 Shadow Bees) - Summon a downpour of holy water to attack all visible enemies. This spell, and this spell alone, also affects boss monsters.
- Resurrection II (20 Umbrella Bees) - Improves the chance of being resurrected after falling in combat.
- Armormend (30 Umbrella Bees) - Restore Arthur's knight armor. Can also be used to transform knight armor into golden knight armor.
As you can see, there are different options to choose from, some being magic spells and some being skills. I highly recommend trying the Kitted Out upgrades as soon as possible, at least for the first time. This allows you to hold more than one weapon, making it easier to keep one in the wings when you need it.
Choosing the right magic spells can also be important, with Thunderstorm III being the only one that can actually deal damage to bosses. It is recommended to enter different spells, although I stay away from some like Emboulden. This one is too limited to where you are on the pitch, which makes it less effective in many areas of the game. Quick Cast would be very effective with just 10 bees, but it's one of the highest. of the umbrella tree that you can get, so it might not be worth a try unless you are just flushed with some shade bees.
