Registering with a free trial account is sufficient but the Google Assistent desktop client setup in 30 steps is not the most accessible anyway.

The client in question, once set up correctly, has a really nice UI. In addition to supporting the dark mode, you can interact with Google Assistant either by voice or by typing your question. Unfortunately, the use of the “Ok Google” hotword with the assistant always listening is not supported.

In addition to being available a large variety of settings there is also a handy history. The window is resizable and you can configure it to always stay on top, close it when it isn't and it's accessible using the key combination (Ctrl + Win + A on Windows).

Despite being able to return visual feedback, this client it is not yet equipped with quick controls for the smart home that you can use manually. It is therefore not as comfortable as a real smart display, however it allows you to have the voice assistant on your favorite operating system and always at hand.

Being that the Assistant API have not been designed for this kind of use Google may decide to block the client at any time. For now, however, if you are ready to embark on the tedious installation procedure, it represents a really convenient and functional solution!

HP Chromebook 14-db0500sa with 14 "display, AMD A4-9120 processor, 4GB RAM and 32GB of internal memory eMMC is available on Amazon for only 280 euros, what are you waiting for?
