The ranking in Call of Duty has remained essentially the same over the past decade. You reach a certain level, unlocking guns, attachments, and perks, and when you choose Prestige, you start over with a new emblem.
How the ranking system works in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare changes the ranking formula this time around. When you start the game for the first time, your goal will be to reach rank 55. Reminder; Modern Warfare combines multiplayer and Spec Ops levels. Where you would usually get prestige and lose your level, you will now receive more levels called officer ranks.
Officer ranks are a seasonal ranking system with rewards and 100 additional ranks. At Officer Rank 1, you receive a Cosmetic Weapon Blueprint for your service. As you advance through the officer rank, you will have other cosmetic items to unlock.
Officer Ranks use the same base form of XP that is used up to level 55. Completing matches and challenges while earning achievements and XP objectives will allow you to level up in the same way. Each time you move up an Officer Rank, you unlock an Officer Challenge.
Like your regular challenges, Officer Challenges will reward plenty of experience points when you complete them with the bonus of a Seasonal Ribbon. When you earn 10 ribbons, you receive a seasonal emblem. Each additional 10 ribbons changes this emblem indicating your progress. When you earn 100 ribbons, your emblem comes alive and shows that you are at your peak for this season.
You also receive another cosmetic weapon model to maximize your rank. Your seasonal emblem and rank will always stay connected to your profile. Once the season is over, everyone's officer rank will be reset, but all past achievements will be visible on your profile.
