You can alter the odds and change the outcome of combat by modifying your character's equipment, amplifying your armies, and approaching scenarios differently while playing in Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord. However, sometimes the game can be a little too difficult. When you start the game for the first time, you choose how difficult or how easy you want to play. During your campaign, you may learn that what you initially chose does not reflect your enjoyment and you want to change it.

Changing the difficulty of the game is not a simple process; in that sense, it's not as fast as clicking “easy” to “hard”. First of all, you want to load up your game and find a place to take a break. After doing that, go to the campaign options and you will have a list of choices at your disposal, each of them changing how your game works and changing the difficulty of the game for better or for worse.

    These are your choices:

    • Friendly troops received Damage: How much damage does your army take during a battle.
    • Damage Received by Friends: How much damage do your friends receive while in combat.
    • Damage received by the player: how much damage does your main character receive during the fight.
    • Recruitment Difficulty: How difficult and how many options do you have when visiting a city to get new troops for your army.
    • Map Movement Speed: How fast is your army moving across the map during the campaign.
    • Activate Death: If a hero dies in battle, they remain dead instead of being captured.
    • Automatically assign benefits to clan members: this option allows you to automatically assign benefits to those in your clan or if you do it yourself.

You can change all of these choices at any time during your Bannerlord campaign. Next to the first five, you have several options that clearly say “very easy” to “realistic”. There are only three options in total. The last two, enabling death and automatically granting benefits to clan members, are on and off.

Once you are done adjusting these settings, you can save the game to see how they feel for your playing style. You can always come back to this screen to change any of these choices.
