Voice assistants are now part of our life, as they have a rather significant space inside smartphones, smartwatches and smart speakers. Among the most used and advanced we obviously find Google Assistant, available for both Android and iOS users. As you surely know, the aforementioned assistant can also be recalled through the magic word "Ok Google". For this reason, in this guide, we will see how to activate it on both operating systems.
Necessary requirements
To be able to use correctly "Ok Google" on Android, the smartphone (or tablet) must have the following features.
- Android 5.0 or higher
- At least 1.5 GB of RAM
- Screen resolution at least 720p
- Google app updated
- Active Wi-Fi or data internet connection
Therefore, in case you have an older software version, we advise you to check for updates and eventually install them.
CAUTION: Google's voice assistant may still not work on some devices that have other voice assistants installed (such as Samsung's Bixby). To work around, you will need to install the app Google Assistant by downloading it from the Play Store.
On the iPhone it is sufficient that it is installed iOS 11 or later (otherwise it will not be possible to download the dedicated app). Obviously an active internet connection.
Activate Ok Google on Android
Checked the requirements, let's see how to activate "Ok Google" on Android smartphones and tablets.
- Open the app "Google" previously downloaded
- Select the item "Other" bottom right and then "Settings"
- Continue with the option "Voice" and then with “Voice Match”
- Make sure that "Ok Google" is active
Once this is done, the voice recognition of “Ok Google” will be correctly active.
Activate Ok Google on iPhone
Even on the iPhone it is possible to activate the magic word, but only with the Google assistant application open. When this is not, in fact, you can only recall Siri.
- Download and open the "Google Assistant" app
- Sign in with your Google account
- Click on the microphone icon at the bottom and enable the microphone by clicking on "OK"
The recognition of "Ok Google" will also be automatically started, but if it does not work, just click on the profile icon at the top right, continue with “Voice Match” and configure your voice.
