Housing is the real endgame in Final Fantasy XIV. Between decorating, gardening and having a cozy corner for AFK, everyone wants a place to live. Accommodation is not guaranteed, however, and there are a number of criteria you will need to meet before you can snag a place to lay your head.
Buy a personal house
To buy a personal house, you must be at least level 50 and have reached the rank of second lieutenant with your large company. To buy a house in Shirogane, you must have met these requirements and also completed the Stormblood quest “Not Without Incident”.
Attention Alt-aholics: you can only have one personal home per service account on each server. For example, you cannot own two personal houses on Matteus, but you can have one on Matteus and one on Zalera.
Buy a free business home
Your FC must have 4 or more members and have reached Rank 6 to buy a house. The CF leader must also have set your rank with permission to buy or cede land.
The player who buys the plot cannot have another character on the same server who is the leader of a FC who owns a house. Most players don't have multiple alts that run free businesses, so this is not a problem most people will encounter.
Keep his house
There is no additional charge once you buy a home. You must enter your home once every 90 days to keep your land. If you do not do this, the land will be considered abandoned and it will be relisted. For free society houses, at least one FC member must enter the house at least once every 90 days.
Housing cost
Housing prices vary depending on the size of the house, the suitability of the plot, and the length of time the house has been on the market. Small houses cost between 3 and 4 million gil, medium ones 15 to 20 million gil, and large plots between 40 and 50 million gil. Each house's price drops every four hours, but unless you pick the game's most unwanted plot on a low-population server, it's unlikely to make a big difference to your costs.
Housing availability
The biggest barrier to getting a home at FFXIV is availability. The same number of plots are available on each server, so it's much easier to buy a house on Siren than it is on Balmung, for example.
On a low pop server, you can go to an empty lot right now and buy a lot. On more crowded servers, you'll find yourself embroiled in a 14-hour binge clicking a sign while you wait for the Random Plots uptime timer to end - and that's if you don't lose for someone who has. clicked faster at the exact moment the house became available.
Relocation of housing
Once you have a house, you can move to new land without having to wait for the housing timer. Once a house is abandoned, it triggers a random timer: the plot is only available to players who already own houses for 12-24 hours.
When moving your home, you get a discount on the new land depending on the size of your old home. Relocation moves all of your housing items to storage so you can easily decorate your new digs. The skin of your home automatically adapts to the size of your new home, so your little chocobo cottage turns into a big chocobo mansion.
