I do not know how many times I have told you: as reliable as it may be, the iPhone is a smartphone like any other and there are many situations in which you can risk breaking it, damaging it or losing it, thus also losing access to photos stored on it.
How do you say? You don't have a very "friendly" relationship with the computer and therefore you don't know yet how to download photos from iPhone to PC? Don't find excuses! Transferring photos from iPhone to computer is an operation that could not be simpler, and then here there are so many precious memories in games that you could lose at any moment! You don't want to take such a big risk just because you don't want to spend five minutes of your time learning a couple of steps you need to take on your PC?
Courage! Take some time off, read the instructions I'm about to give you and try to put them into practice. Whether you have a Windows PC or a Mac, you will easily be able to secure all the photos (and videos) you've made with your iPhone and store them on your computer's hard drive. The procedure to follow is the same for all iPhone models and iOS versions. Happy reading and have fun!
Download photos from iPhone to Windows PC
To transfer photos from an iPhone to a computer equipped with the Windows operating system, it is essential that iTunes, the multimedia software from Apple, is installed on the PC. If you haven't done so yet, then connect to the Cupertino company's website and click on the button Download to download iTunes to your computer.
When the download is complete, open the installation package named iTunes64Setup.exe, pigia sul pulsating NEXT and finish the iTunes setup by clicking on first Install and then Yes twice in a row e end.
Now all you have to do is connect the iPhone to the computer using the supplied Lightning / Dock cable, wait for iTunes to start automatically and, if it is the first time you put the two devices in communication, press the button Authorize that appears on the screen of the "iPhone by" and on the button Continue that appears on the Windows desktop.
At this point, close iTunes and open theFile Explorer Windows (the yellow folder icon located at the bottom left of the taskbar). Then select the item computer o What PCfrom the left sidebar, right click on the icon iPhone and select the item Import images and videos give the menu to compare.
In the window that opens, wait a few moments for all the images and videos on the iPhone to be cataloged, put the check mark next to the item Review, organize and group the items to import and click on the button NEXT.
Now, if you want, type i tag you want to assign to the photos to be transferred to the PC (separating them with commas), use the adjustment bar next to the item Adjust groups to adjust the time interval that Windows must use to divide the various groups of photos and presses the button Import to start copying images to your computer. The photos will be stored in the folder Images Windows and organized in sub-folders renamed with the current date.
If you want to customize the names groups of photos, expand the boxes relating to the latter and click on the appropriate text field. To change the name to be automatically assigned to the photos or the path in which to import them, click on the item instead Other options located at the bottom left and select the settings you prefer from the drop-down menus in the window that opens. By placing the check mark next to the item Delete files from device after import you can have images imported to your PC automatically deleted from the phone memory.
If you are not interested in organizing your photos in folders or assigning them tags, you can import them "manually" on your PC by simply opening theFile Explorer Windows, by going into computer o What PC and double clicking on the icon iPhone.
At this point, go on the path Internal Storage > DCIM and browse all the folders contained in the latter to make a simple copy-and-paste of the photos and videos present in the memory of your "iPhone by".
Please note: if you have a PC equipped with Windows 10, you can also start the app Gallery present "standard" on your computer and import photos from the iPhone with that. To start the photo import process, launch the app Gallery looking for it in the menu Home, click on the icon with the arrow going down located at the top right and follow the instructions on the screen.
Download photos from iPhone to Mac
After seeing how to download photos from an iPhone to a Windows PC, let's move on to the procedure to follow on macOS. Since Mac computers are produced by Apple itself, within the latter it is possible to find already installed all the necessary software for transferring images (and videos) from iPhone and iPad, starting from iTunes.
To transfer photos from iPhone to Mac, therefore, all you have to do is connect the phone to the computer, start the application Gallery (the one with the colored flower icon), choose theiPhone icon from the left sidebar and press the button Import all new items which is located at the top right.
If you want, you can also import some images on the Mac leaving others on the "iPhone by". In this case, you need to select the photos to transfer to your computer by doing cmd + click on their miniatures and press the button Import selected xx which is located at the top right.
All the shots imported into Photos or iPhoto are stored in a "locked" library that contains all the images (you can find it in the form of a single file in the Images macOS). If you prefer to save the photos freely, in a folder on your computer or on an external device, you need to turn to other solutions, such as Image capture that you also find installed as standard on your computer.
To start Image capture, search for the application with Spotlight or select its icon in the folder Other of the Launchpad. In the window that opens, select theiPhone icon from the left sidebar, choose the folder in which to import the photos from the drop-down menu matter in e pulsing sul pulsating everything matters to start the data transfer.
If you don't want to import all the photos to your Mac but only some of them, select them by doing cmd + click on their thumbnails and click on the button Import or drag them with the mouse to a folder of your choice.
Download photos from iPhone via iCloud
Thanks to iCloud, you can create an online backup of all the photos you take with the iPhone and download them to your computer (or other iOS devices) completely automatically.
Going into more detail, there are two services that allow you to synchronize photos via iCloud: Photo stream which holds up to 25.000 photos taken over the past month on iOS and ICloud Photo Library which instead stores photos and videos permanently. Both services are free, but with very important differences: Photo Streaming does not erode the storage space on iCloud Drive (which for free accounts amounts to 5GB), while iCloud Photo Library yes, and therefore almost necessarily requires the subscription of a paid plan of iCloud Drive (which start at 99 cents / month for 50GB of space).
Once you have activated the iCloud photo sync services, you can download the photos to your computer without physically uploading the iPhone to it. Thanks to iCloud support integrated into macOS and the free iCloud client available on Windows, you can activate the automatic photo synchronization and download these to your computer without lifting a finger (it will all happen automatically via iCloud).
Now let's get to the point: Photo Stream should be enabled by default on your iPhone (assuming you have associated it with an iCloud account), while the iCloud Photo Library must be activated manually. To activate both services, all you have to do is go to the menu Settings> [your name]> iCloud> Photos I will post your ON le relative levette (ICloud Photo Library e Upload to my photo stream). On iOS 10.2.x and earlier, to access the same menu you have to go to Settings> iCloud> Photos.
If it is your intention to activate the iCloud Photo Library (I highly recommend it) but you have not yet subscribed to an iCloud paid plan, go to the menu Settings> [your name]> iCloud of iOS and first presses on graphic related to the space available on your iCloud Drive, then on the item Change storage plan and finally on the plan you intend to subscribe. If you are using iOS 10.2.x or earlier, go to Settings> iCloud> Storage> Buy More Space to access the same function.
After enabling iCloud Photo Library or Photo Stream, if you have a Windows PC, you can enable automatic photo download from your online library by installing the official iCloud client. So connect to the Windows 10 Microsoft Store and download from there. If, on the other hand, you are using an older version of the Microsoft operating system, you can download the client installation package from the Apple website by clicking on the link On Windows 7 and Windows 8, you can download iCloud for Windows from Apple's website.
In the latter case, when the download is complete, open the iCloud client installation package (iCloudSetup.exe), put the check mark next to the item I accept the terms of the license agreement click her cousin Install and then Yes, end e Yes to finish the setup. Accept the restart of the PC.
With the computer restarted, log in to the iCloud client (which will open automatically) using your Apple ID data and check the box Gallery. The contents will be downloaded in optimized version in the folder of iCloud created in the path Images of the PC.
If you use a Mac, you can download photos and videos from iCloud using the appropriate option available in the app Gallery. To enable it, open the app Gallery, go to the menu Photos> Preferences which is located at the top left and, in the window that opens, select the tab iCloud and metti il segno di spunta accanto alla voce ICloud Photo Library o My Photo Stream.
If you don't find any iCloud entries in the Photos app settings, go to System preference (the gear icon located in the Dock bar), select the icon of Apple ID / iCloud and make sure your Mac is connected to your Apple ID and that the sync feature Gallery is active.
If you don't want to download all the photos from iCloud but only some of them, you can contact the iCloud web panel which allows you to view all the photos and videos in the iCloud Photo Library (does not work with Photo Stream) and download them to your computer via the browser.
To view the photos of the iCloud Library from the browser, connected to iCloud.com, log in with your Apple ID data and click on the icon Gallery. On the page that opens, wait a few moments for the photos and videos in your library to be uploaded, select the ones you are interested in (using the combination Ctrl + click o cmd + click, or Ctrl+A/cmd+a to select them all) and download them to your PC by clicking on the icon cloud with arrow going down located at the top right.
Other solutions to download photos from iPhone to PC
To conclude, let me point you to other solutions - alternatives so to speak - through which you can download photos from iPhone to PC or from iPhone to Mac.

- Send Anywhere - a valid alternative to AirDrop for anyone but a Mac. It allows you to exchange data via Wi-Fi and the Internet using a very simple code system. It supports iOS, Windows, macOS and even Android. It can also work directly from the browser (to receive files from the iPhone without installing new programs on the PC).
- Google Photos - a free alternative to iCloud Photo Library, provided by Google. By installing the official Google Photos app on your iPhone, you can store photos (with a maximum resolution of 16MP) and videos (with a maximum resolution of 1080p) online without space or time limits. Once stored online, the content can be synced to your computer using the Google Drive client for Windows and macOS.
