In the next paragraphs, in fact, I will illustrate you in detail how to fit a photo to the desktop by changing the settings of Windows and macOS and, if these are insufficient to obtain the desired result, I will also explain how you can adapt a photo "manually" using photo editing software useful for the purpose.

How to fit a photo to the desktop on Windows
want fit a photo to the desktop on Windows? Whether you have a PC updated to Windows 10 or a machine equipped with an older version of the Microsoft operating system, you can rest assured: succeeding is not difficult at all.
It was used Windows 10, right click on an “empty” spot on the desktop and select the item Customize from the menu that opens. In the window that appears on the screen, press the button Shop by Department placed in the section Choose your image and select the photo you want to set as your desktop wallpaper.
To adapt it to the PC screen, then, open the menu Choose a location placed a little further down and select one of the available options (eg. Fill, Suitable, Extend, etc.), trying to find the one that allows you to obtain the desired result.
It was used Windows 7instead, double-click on the image you want to use as a background, so as to invoke the Windows Photo Viewer or the Windows Live Photo Gallery, right click on it and select the item Set as desktop wallpaper give the menu check if you press.
Then fit the image to the desktop: right click on an "empty" point of the desktop, select the item Customize from the menu that opens and, in the window that appears on the screen, presses on Desktop wallpaper and then select one of the items available in the appropriate drop-down menu (eg. Finally, fit the image to the desk by opening the drop down menu located at the top (next to the screen thumbnail showing the desktop preview) and select one of the adaptation options from those available (eg. Full screen, Fit to screen, Expand to fill the screen, etc.). The changes will be effective immediately.
Adapting a photo to the desktop "manually"
If through the procedures described in the previous chapters you have not been able to achieve your goal, perhaps you need to resort to external solutions that allow you to adapt a photo to the desktop "manually". Before you can, however, you need to know what exactly your PC screen resolution is: only then can you actually get your hand on the image you want to use as a wallpaper.
To succeed on it Windows, right click on an "empty" point on the desktop, select the item Display settings (on Windows 10), Screen resolution (on Windows 7) or Property (on Windows XP) and, in the window that opens, notes the values you find written in the menu Resolution (are Windows 10 and Windows 7) o in Settings> Screen Resolution (on Windows XP).
Su MacOSinstead, click on the logo of Apple at the top left (in the menu bar), select the item About this Mac from the menu that opens and, in the window that appears in the center of the screen, presses on the card Monitor. Then take note of the values inherent to the screen resolution and that's it.
After finding out what your computer screen resolution is, you can finally get down to business and fit a photo to your desktop. There are various programs useful for this purpose, including GIMP, which is free, easy to use, and available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. In recent years it has deservedly won the title of best free and open source alternative to the famous Photoshop, so I would say to see immediately how to use it at its best.
To begin with, connected to the GIMP website, presses the button Download x.xx.x and by clicking on the button Download GIMP x.xx.x directly to download the program to your PC. Once the download is complete, open the GIMP installation file and follow the wizard that is proposed to you: on Windows, for example, you have to click on the button first Yes and then on the buttons OK, Install e end.
Su Macinstead, you have to drag GIMP into the folder Applications macOS, then you have to right-click on the program icon and select the item apri from the menu that appears twice in a row (this operation is only necessary when starting GIMP for the first time, to “bypass” the restrictions imposed by Apple on software from non-certified sources).
After starting the program, select the item apri from the menu Fillet (top left) and choose the photo you want to fit on your computer desk. Now, select the item Image scale ... from the menu Image and, in the window that opens, type the new size in pixel you want the photo to take on (you have to use the same screen size you identified earlier).
If you want to prevent the width and l 'height of the image keep their original aspect ratio, click on the symbol of chain located next to the fields attached to the new image resolution.
Then choose theinterpolation you want to use to reduce or enlarge the image using the appropriate drop-down menu (eg. None, Linear, etc.) and presses the button Ladder to save the changes made.
At this point, all you have to do is save your photo by going to the menu File> Save with nome and apply it normally as your desktop background following the instructions I gave you in the first and second chapter of this guide.
