Note that each generation of iPhone has its own manipulation to force them to restart.

Force an iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus to shut down

  1. Short press the volume up button. Briefly press the volume down button. Finally hold the lock button until the Apple logo appears.

Force an iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus to shut down

  1. Press and hold the lock button and the volume down button simultaneously for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Force an iPhone 6, or older iPhone to shut down

  1. Press and hold the Lock button and the Home button simultaneously for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
