To upgrade your Crypto in Destroy All Humans, you will need to collect DNA Points. These points can upgrade your saucer, dashboard, ground weapons, or cognitive powers to make your quest for destruction much easier.
Doing anything in the game will allow you to collect DNA. Completing missions, extracting brain rods, and other activities will slowly give you more points to spend on upgrades. Completing the final mission instantly gives you 30000 DNA points, but you might need those points to get past the hard level first. Here's how to earn the most DNA points in the least amount of time.
First, as you progress through the story, focus on leveling up the anal probe and your. Upgrading them fully will allow the power of the Brain Blast to infect other humans around them, and the Anal Probe can send two tendrils at once and collect brains much faster. Obviously, don't neglect to upgrade other things as well if you have any issues, but these two upgrades will allow you to grab more DNA during missions.
Remember to go back to the old maps and, instead of playing a campaign mission again, select 'explore the world'. This will put you in free roaming mode. Simply remove the anal probe and use both that and the brain's extracting power to retrieve the DNA of any human that gets in your way.
As you mine Brain Rods, your notoriety level will increase, attracting tougher enemies and military vehicles. Fortunately, as long as you efficiently mine the Brains and avoid their fire, you shouldn't face too many problems. Make sure to take cover when your shield is low to regenerate it.

If you're tired of mining brains, be sure to focus on the side challenges that are completed with three stars and collect probes scattered around each map. The probes yield 75 DNA for each you find, and they're not terribly hard to find. Each map has four challenges dedicated to a race, rampage, kidnapping and armageddon mission. It is much easier to get a better score when you have better upgrades, so you can focus on grinding DNA in the method given above.
