Like its predecessors, Shenmue III features several puzzles that you'll need along the way, including the Bell Tower.
At some point in the game you will come across Elder Yeh, who has some information on the Verdant Bridge. However, you will have to complete a certain challenge, which involves climbing up a steeple and placing six tokens in his house. This guide will walk you through where to find the tokens and how to use them once you reach the steeple.
Location The six tokens
The tokens are not exactly in the open. However, they aren't that hard to find if you look around a bit.
- Token 1: Look for the sliding cabinet right in front of the old Yeh sits and you will find the token there.
- Token 2: There is a shelf just behind. By holding down the L2 button, you will encounter the second token. You will see a gap where you will have to move another piece of furniture aside. Before you do that, however, go a bit to the right, near the corner, and look for a sliding closet door. Open it and you will locate the third token.
- Token 3: Now move the furniture and go forward in space. You will see a cabinet with glass to your right. Token # 3 is right inside.
- Token 4: Take a look to the left of the cabinet and you will see a shelf. Look in the third drawer and you will find the fifth token inside.
- Token 5: Go down two cabinets to the left. Take a look inside the small drawer and the fifth token will be waiting for you.
- Token 6: Finally, look for a sliding door on the left side. Go ahead and open it, and the sixth token is yours.
Once you find those tokens, go ahead and rest for the night. Then the next day you will go to the bell tower to complete the puzzle. Do yourself a favor and make sure everything is already done in Bailu Village first. Once the bell tower is finished, you will pass to history.

Once you have climbed the steeple, you will see six pillars each with a symbol on it. The symbols will not match what you see on the chips. In fact, they act like the opposites. What you need to do is match each of the tokens with the symbols representing opposites.
Here's how they break down, just in case:
- The shield pillar - use the sword token
- The pillar of the sun - use the moon token
- The pillar Steamed breads - use the Wine token
- The open palm pillar - use the fist token
- The Phoenix pillar - use the Dragon token
- The turtle pillar - Use the crane token
Now comes the tricky part. Once the tokens are in place, you need to head to the top and spin the centerpiece. Here is the Fallen you want to get into: left, left, left, right, right, right, left, left. To do this, use the buttons in the shape of a circle and a square. So make sure you turn in the right direction.
