XnView (Windows/Mac/Linux)
The first of the programs to crop free photos in British that I want to suggest you to try is XnView. Haven't you ever heard of it? Strange, he is very famous! In any case, you don't have to worry, I can show you how it works. It is a free and multiplatform software (it can be used on both Windows and Mac as well as Linux) and as an image viewer but which actually also integrates a bunch of very useful functions for photo editing which is why it is very valid also for the purpose in question. It supports over 500 different graphic file formats and is super easy to use.
To use it, first download it on your computer by connecting to the official website of the program, by clicking on the button Download that you find at the top and then on the button corresponding to the correct installation file for your operating system. So, if you are using Windows click on Win 32bit setup (if you are using a 32-bit version of Windows) or on Setup Win 64 Bit (if you are using a 64-bit version of Windows), while if you have a Mac you have to click on OSX DMG 64bit.
Then wait a few moments for the program installation file to be downloaded and then if you have a Windows PC start it and follow the simple setup procedure that is proposed to you by clicking first on Si, Then OK (to set British as the default language) and then on NEXT. Therefore accept the terms of the license agreement of the program by checking the relevant box and click again on NEXT four times in a row and then presses on Install and to conclude on end. If you are using a Mac instead, simply drag the XnView icon into the folder Applications Of computer.
At this point, start the program by clicking on its icon, click on OK in response to the startup wizard and use the section Folders on the left to navigate between the various folders on your computer and reach the one containing the image or images to be cut.
Then select the image on which you want to intervene from the box located at the top right, double-click on it in order to access the editor and select the tool icon Cut out which is high up.
Now, define the area to be cropped by left clicking on a given point in the image, continuing to hold and adjusting the selection box you see appear on the screen as you go. If you want, you can define the area to be cropped using the various presets available in the menu at the top left or, again by defining the exact dimensions using the menus always located at the top left.
Then press on Cut out to crop the selected part and overwrite the original image. If, on the other hand, you want to save the crop without modifying the original image, you have to click on the button Save selection as ... which is at the top right and indicate the file format and the location where you want to save it. Easy, right?
GIMP (Windows / Mac / Linux)
Another great software you can turn to to crop your images as well as to make the most varied changes is GIMP. This is what is known to most as the free Photoshp. It offers countless advanced and non-advanced tools to edit photos and images that prove to be very useful for the most diverse needs. Even in this case, it is a cross-platform program (therefore compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux) and is open source in nature. To crop photos and images with GIMP, the first step you need to take is to download and install the program on your computer. Then go to the official GIMP website, click on the button Download 2.x.xx which stands high and then presses on orange button which is further down to start the download immediately.
When the download is complete, start the file obtained and follow the simple setup procedure that is proposed to you to install the program. If you are using Windows click on first Si, Then Install and then on end. If you are using a Mac drag the program icon attached to the package .dmg just got into the folder Applications macOS and it's done.
Then start the program and open the photo you want to crop by selecting the item Apri ... from the menu Fillet (in the central window of GIMP). Now, if you want to crop the selected image by extrapolating a portion so that it can then be saved as an image in its own right, all you have to do is select it rectangular marquee tool from the toolbar located on the left of the screen and draw, by left clicking and continuing to hold down, a rectangle around the image area. Then go to the menu Image GIMP and select the item Crop to selection to make the crop.
When the operation is completed, save the cropped image simply by going to the menu Fillet GIMP and selecting the item Export give the menu check if you press.
In addition to this, as I have just indicated, you can act on a given image by extrapolating a certain subject from it in such a way that you can then paste everything into another photo. To do this, you must first enable it Foreground selection tool from the GIMP toolbar and select, holding down the left mouse button, the silhouette of the person or object to be cut out.
Then, you have to hold down the left mouse button and color the entire element just selected (you can adjust the size of the brush from the panel located at the bottom left) trying to be as precise as possible.
Once this is done, press the button Submit on the computer keyboard and the selection of the desired subject will be generated immediately. Finally select the item Copy o Size from the menu Modification of GIMP after which you can paste the subject of your photo into any other image. If you notice any smudges, you can correct them using the eraser
IrfanView (Windows)
As an alternative to the software I have already told you about, you can contact IrfanView, one of the best free multilingual programs (also supports British!) in circulation for Windows operating systems for editing images. Even in this case, it is a resource that was born as a photo viewer but which, considering the large number of options and tools offered, is also very useful for carrying out all the most common image editing operations, including cropping. It has a clear and essential interface and is also very light. Well ... to try now!
To download it immediately on your computer, connected to its website, click on the link Download on the left and select a download link from those available (eg. FossHub - download IrfanView). Then wait a few moments for the program file to be downloaded to your computer and then start it, click on Si and then NEXT four times in a row. Finally, press on Done to conclude the setup.
Now, go back to the program's website, select the link IrfanView languages on the left and click on the link Installer che trovi in corrispondenza della dicitura city. Then start the file relating to the localization in British obtained, click on install and then OK.

- If you are using Windows, double-click on the image you want to crop, select a Photo from the list of available applications, press the button Modification that is at the top and then click the button Cut and rotate on the right. Define the area of the image to crop by moving and adjusting the selection box as you see fit and then press the button Done on the right to confirm the changes made. Then choose whether to apply the changes to the original image by clicking on the item Save, always present on the right, or whether to save them by going to create a new image by clicking on Save a copy.
