Skelattack review: an unusual change of perspective

On June 2 it landed on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC Skeleton attack, Konami's latest effort. It is a dungeon crawler, that is, a security that has characteristics typical of RPGs, especially from the fantasy game Dungeons & Dragons.
Will this particular video game convince us? Let's find out together!

Skelattack review: from monster to hero

Our adventure begins in the bowels of Undervale, a particular place where the dead go to live (a bit like The Corpse Bride). The protagonist of this new adventure is The salty dog, an adorable skeleton who remembers nothing of his past.

Every person who lives in this city, in fact, knows nothing about his life before death and will remain in the dark about it until they are able to overcome the remembrance.

It is a test in which the skeletons have to go through some tests to get closer to their past, discovering something more about their living life. I mean, live alive, breathe again e with meat (as well as bones). Skully is finally ready to face this test together with Imber, his bat friend.

With the help of Elzedon, the sage of the village, the protagonist prepares to face his fate - or his past.

Unfortunately, however, a bigger test lurks around the corner and is ready to put sticks in his bones: a human invasion underground causes a lot of damage, including the kidnapping of Elzedon. Will Skully be able to restore peace and find out who she was?

Narrow places and increasing difficulties

Skelattack review: an unusual change of perspective

What we notice right away is the overturning of the figure of the hero: this adorable and likeable little skeleton will embody the essence of the hero. He is not seen as a monster, he is not the villain of the situation and his job will be to save his creaky, bony fellow.

After a short video presentation that explains who the protagonist is and what he has to do, we go to the old Elzedon to find out some more information about this test to be faced. The next morning, however, the sub-world we used to know falls apart because of the humans and the our adventure begins.

The places we are going to explore initially are very tight and this will not allow us to move very well. At the beginning the levels are quite simple, aumentando gradually the difficulty. It should be noted that this difficulty, in numerous points, will be quite high.

In addition, each platform level has specific points where some have been placed traps: some of them will be placed quite difficult areas, which will do us to suffer a lot.

What the mini tutorials tell us is that we need to help ourselves with the The walls, jumping at the right moment and then clinging to the ledges, avoiding traps with style. This game mechanics, However, it is not at all simple.

Personally, it took me perhaps longer than I should to figure out how to jump without slipping or falling with all my bones on the traps.

The enemies are quite simple to defeat, as far as the actual bosses are concerned, however, it will be necessary to work a little more. The fights turn out anyway simple, they don't require too much effort but they are interesting e they never tire, because every enemy - or almost - has different fighting styles.

This made it more dynamic and exciting but, like saying, it is more complicated to jump on the walls than to kill enemies. I don't know how reassuring such a thing can be.

Nice graphics and sound VS unpleasant flaws

Skelattack review: an unusual change of perspective

- ambienti they are really beautiful, pleasing to look at and have made me smile the whole time. There graphics are great and style of drawings it's unique and particular: the characters have been done really well and little Imber is far too adorable.

Le song that accompany us during the course of our adventure, although too quiet on some occasions, are catchy it's a lot soothing.

All of this reminded me of a nice mix between La Sposa Cadavere and Coco. The settings are details e they alternate: we will go from wonderful illuminated night landscapes, colorful and magical natural landscapes, to darker and dusty places.

The painful notes, however, are not lacking. First of all there is no Italian language, the subtitles will in fact be only and exclusively in English and this could make it difficult for some players who may not chew their tongue well.

Also in the course of the title we will have the gem which will be useful for purchasing various types of items. Unfortunately, every time we die, we lose gems as well it is not always easy to recover them. Sometimes the traps are too close together and this makes it difficult to continue. Patience can take a hit on these occasions.

Especially since the gems we lose will stay in the point where we died. So either you change your strategy or you will keep dying all the time. Poor our bones.

Skelattack review: in conclusion

Skelattack looks like a mediocre product. The story is interesting, the graphics and characterization of the individual characters are great and the fights are full of life. All these elements, however, come overshadowed the defects of the game mechanics and the difficulty, sometimes too high, of most of the levels.

The high amount of traps placed in the first levels and the difficulty in avoiding them made my gaming experience quite frustrating and, at times, bad. This I am very sorry because the title had presented itself very well as a title and I was curious to accompany Skully in his adventure.

Despite having succeeded in the enterprise, it was all very complicated and unpleasant.

Komani should have lent more attention to certain elements. If so, the title would have been far better and more enjoyable to play.
