How to make money on Twitch

We have already said that Twitch is a completely free platform and that anyone can use them without spending a cent. Whoever broadcasts, however, has no way of earn for his streams and the time devoted to them if not with the ssupport of its supporters and sponsors. Unlike YouTube, Twitch doesn't pay anyone who broadcasts on its platform. In this section we will explain better how to make money on Twitch with your channel.

Let's start by saying that the methods by which streamers can earn money on Twitch are different. Among them we find:

Not all streamers can benefit from all of the methods mentioned. In fact, many of them are only available to Twitch Affiliates and Partners.

      Subscriptions

      - monthly subscriptions are one of the earning methods available only for partners and affiliates. The cost of subscriptions varies according to the level chosen, the first level is € 4,99, with the first month only € 3,99. By subscribing, viewers have access to various benefits which we will learn more about in another section of this guide. If you subscribe, in addition to financially supporting your channel and your favorite streamer, you will show all your appreciation for their content.

Il actual gain that you get from each subscription is equivalent to approximately 50% of the amount, excluding fees and withholding taxes.

      Bit di Twitch

Bits are a virtual good and can be seen as the Twitch coin. Bit activation is allowed only to affiliates. Each viewer can choose to buy bits, often shown on the screen as emoticons or animated gems, to spend for sending messages and emojis in chat to cheer on your streamer. Emoticons are animated emoticons where a viewer supports the streamer allowing him to monetize.

      Donate

In addition to the classic subscription and Twitch bits, another way by which it is possible support your favorite authors or win, in case you were a creator, it's donations. To donate, you need to click on "Donation" button within the channel, if present, and enter the number you want to send to the streamer.

As with the other methods, there is no obligation on Twitch to make donations. However, giving a certain amount of money to your favorite creator remains a direct and original way to interact and show your support. In addition to the money, you can add a message or audio to your donation and whoever receives it will be able to give you special alerts and banners.

In case you are a streamer with a large number of supporters, we anticipate that donations have often been Twitch's biggest source of income for other creators before you.

      Sponsorships

Along with donations, another useful and relevant source of income for Twitchers it's sponsorships. Their operation is very simple. During your streams you have to guarantee visibility to a product (games, clothing, peripherals, etc ...) in exchange for a fee by third parties.

The choice of sponsoring or not a certain content is free. This means that you have the freedom to choose the products and brands to promote that best suit you and your brand, while remaining faithful to your ideas and passions. Another benefit deriving from sponsorships is that of being able to free use of PCs, equipment and peripherals made available by the sponsoring company.

Generally, sponsored payout is calculated based on rates per single spectator per hour. So, the bigger your audience, the more money you can make.

      Affiliations

Affiliations are one of the first methods streamers use to make money on Twitch. By joining an affiliate program, Twitchers can monetize by inviting their fans to purchase a product on a specific website, earning a small percentage of each sale.

In order to join an affiliate program, in addition to having a channel, you must become a Twitch affiliate. How is it done and what are the requirements? We'll explain it to you in a moment.

      Twitch subscriptions: how to subscribe

To subscribe to a channel, you must be subscribed to Twitch, enter the desired channel e click on the "Subscribe" button which is located at the bottom, just below the transmission. Or, simply by accessing the channel, you will find it next to the name, under the preview, near the "Follow" button. As anticipated, subscriptions serve to support streamers. Indeed, asubscribe to a channelInstead, allows those who do the direct to get some income from them. The reason to subscribe, therefore, is to support, even with little, an entertainment service and allow creators to monetize their commitment.

      Types of subscription

They exist on Twitch two different ways to subscribe to Twitch: Link your account to Amazon Prime and donate your Prime membership, or subscribe from Twitch itself.

      Subscriptions are divided into:

      • Gift subscription with Prime: Get games and in-game rewards every month, a monthly subscription to a channel on Twitch, and more with Prime.

So, if you are an Amazon Prime subscriber you can offer your support to your favorite streamer for free. You won't have to donate anything, Amazon will do it for you.

For see the total number you have to go to the channel page and, under the channel name, there will be the number that indicates all our followers.

Among the many activities that can be proposed to its users to make the live more interactive, we have the rewards given by channel points. Channel points are points that chat users get just by watching a live one. These points are personal for each channel. By following a live broadcast, therefore, it is possible to accumulate these points and then spend them to redeem rewards (visible in chat).

there some rewards created by default with the creation of a Twitch account and others customized. So let's see in detail what it is and how to create new ones.

To create rewards on Twitch (or modify existing ones), you need to access the management of challenges and rewards. To do this, you need to enter the Author Dashboard, click on "Community" and then on "Channel Points". Here you have to enter on "Manage challenges and rewards" and we can start editing.

To create a challenge, once logged in to the challenge management, just click on the purple button "Create a community challenge". A pop-up will open in which we can enter all the information such as the name, description, the amount to be accumulated and the number of days. This challenge can be fed by the users in chat whenever they want, simply by donating the channel points. Once the required sum has been reached, the challenge will have been completed and the author of the channel will have to provide the established reward.

A challenge could be, for example, dyeing a streamer's hair. In fact, the author of the live shows could decide to dye his hair bright red (provided he gets 50000 channel points in 30 days).

In addition to the challenge, you can also create simpler rewards, which all users can access via chat. To create the rewards on Twitch, you must proceed in the same way as the challenges and then go to the bottom of the "Add custom reward" button.

Here too we have a series of parameters to complete, such as the name, description, cost. Once the reward has been decided, we can also enter other parameters related to the number of times it will be possible to request this reward during the live.

By default, users will be able to highlight their own message, to make it more visible in chat, they can choose an emoticon to unlock, or they can change one. Basic rewards cannot be eliminated, but we are not obliged to keep them active during our Twitch stream. To remove the qualification, just click on the circle next to the reward, always in the section of the same.

In the same way we can also disable some custom rewards that we don't want to make active for some particular live.

A few tricks to be more visible

It's not easy to be a streamer in the Twitch sea, but there is certainly some foresight you can lean on.

Chat is the heart of your live. Users are not watching a video on YouTube, but a live stream. This means you have to do what you can to get them involved. Create challenges, talk to the audience, ask questions. Your audience is your live.

Another important step is consistency. Trying to broadcast at the same times all the time is important to keep your audience.

If you keep your schedule updated, your followers will always know when to find you online. Don't forget to update it all the time.

            The Twitch Story

Twitch was born on June 6, 2011 and, now, it matters more than 15 million active users per day. The streaming platform comes to life as a Justin.tv spin-off. The platform has grown rapidly over the years, particularly thanks to the categories dedicated to games and esports. Currently, Twitch is the most popular platform in this area. As of February 2014, Twitch is the fourth largest source of internet traffic.

Currently, the streaming platform is owned by Amazon, which bought it in 2014 for $ 970 million. The acquisition made it possible to obtain all those rewards in the game given by Prime Gaming. Among the most famous users on Twitch, we find the Ninja streamer who has about 14 million followers.

Twitch was born primarily for the broadcasting of games and eSports, but it is not lacking in many other categories. There are sections dedicated to music, talk shows, conferences and more. Although the traflarger figure is determined by the games, the live numbers grow dramatically on the other categories as well. Competitors like YouTube and Dailymotion have tried to compete but, currently, have failed to keep up.
