The MSI MAG Series review: the easy-to-use pre-assembled

Playing on PC has become increasingly popular, which is why many brands have launched on the market with ad hoc solutions for everyone. MSI is also no exception with its series MSI MAG Codex. Many users do not have the time, the skills, or the desire to build a gaming computer themselves and this is where the pre-assembled. It's all about solutions perfect for those who want to have a "plug and play" computer. These solutions are certainly expensive, but they fulfill their function perfectly.

Some time ago, we tried the Trident X, a very compact and sober solution; today, however, we have a pre-assembled from the series in our hands MSI MAG. The solution we tested has a processor i7-9700F, an NVIDIA RTX 2060 Super e 16 GB of RAM. Did he behave well? Let's see it in more detail.

MSI MAG: a solid solution

The solution MSI MAG is certainly not among the most compact, but it is suitable for those who want a fixed location. The case is quite sober: it features a total black coloring, although the front reveals a coloration LED RGB. The front is shaped and seems to be "divided in half"; the right side shows a brushed effect livery, the left side, on the other hand, looks futuristic and this is where the lights appear. These are sharp and square lines that make the whole configuration very interesting. Finally, in the lower left part, the MSI logo colored red appears. The chassis is equipped by default with two metal bulkheads, but, inside the package, there is also a tempered glass. This, smoked black color, makes the solution even more captivating. Thanks to the transparent bulkhead, we can also appreciate the red LED inside the case. Naturally, the glass allows us to also take a look at the internal components, well arranged and spaced between them. Air circulation looks good both thanks to the size of the chassis, and thanks to the grids on the front (side), top and back. On the upper part, moreover, we find the allocation space of the USB ports and the power button. It is a "split", made with shiny material that gives an even more captivating touch.

In detail, we find two USB-A ports, a door USB-C and two 3.5 mm jack inputs for headphones and microphone.
Finally, even in the rear we have a fair number of ports: 4 USB-A 2-0, 2 USB-A 3.2, an HDMI port, a DVI port, a VGA, a PS / 2 combo, a Gigabit Ethernet port, three 3,5 ”jacks for headphones, microphone and stereo input.

A great entry-level

The computer MSI MAG we tested presents a good configuration for entry level users. Inside we find, in fact, a processor i7-9700F (therefore without integrated graphics card), an NVIDIA card RTX 2060 Super, 16 GB of RAM and an M2 SSD.

To test our processor capability right away, we launched the PC on Cinebench R15; the pre-assembled product obtained, in this case, a score of 1290 cb. Of course we didn't want to stop at the impression given by a benchmark alone and we decided to exploit the full potential of the computer in the field.

We did several tests within the games and then we also tested it in the world of streaming. If in the first case we didn't have any hitch, in the second we struggled slightly more. The software with great weight on RAM and processor (such as streamlabs obs) have, in fact, had some drops and have not been able to run as we used to see.

Among the many titles tested, we also tried the latest Assassin's Creed Valhalla, the test was carried out on a monitor with an aspect ratio of 21: 9 (2560 x 1080 p). To the maximum graphic quality, the computer released an average of 53 FPS, with minimum dips to 24 FPS and maximum dips to 108 FPS. Lowering the graphics settings slightly, we had no problem maintaining a frame of 60 FPS on media. The response was excellent with a resolution of 2560 x 1440p. The RTX 2060 Super, in fact, has been able to express itself at its best at this resolution.

The only true one problem was on the streaming side. Some very heavy titles, such as Valhalla himself, struggled to stream easily. The problem was never encountered in the game, where the FPS remained stable, but the load on the CPU and RAM caused a few frames to be lost in the transmission. Who is the MSI MAG pc for?

As we have also stated on other occasions, a Pre-assembled PC is perfectly suited to those who need an immediate solution. Building a computer by yourself is not easy, but above all it takes time. Not everyone has them available and this is where these solutions come into play. Me too'MSI MAG was born for this purpose. It is a simple and easy to use composition. It comes clean, with an operating system installed, with all the components in place. All we have to do is turn it on and download the games we want to play.

The solution it is also good from a performance point of view; it is not a high-level machine, but it is still a product capable of letting us play everything net of some compromise.
In addition, the size of the chassis allows us to do all the upgrades we want without any problem. In the event that, for example, we wanted to expand the memory, we could do it without too much difficulty. In short, a good basic solution, which also lends itself well to future changes and updates.
