How to manage accounts in Windows 10
The panel Settings> Accounts comes with five different items relating to as many aspects of the management of users who have the right to access the PC / tablet in question.
The first item we are going to analyze is "Your email messages or accounts": It only concerns your account (the one from which you are connected) and, as you see it below, it appears when the configured account is of the Outlook type - that is not local.
From this panel you can perform various operations by clicking (or tapping) on the links present; in this case, you will be able to:
- manage the details Microsoft account (billing, family, subscriptions, security and more);
- change your account type and transform it into a local account (useful, for example, if you no longer want to associate your business with your Outlook account);
- modify your personal image;
- associate other online accounts to the PC to manage emails, calendars and contacts;
- associate accounts used by other apps.
The next item on the list, “Access options“, Once again concerns your account and allows you to (re) define how to access the PC / tablet in question.
From here you can define:
- if the PC / tablet needs to request access when the PC is reactivated after suspension;
- a new password (in the case of a remote account, you will be asked to change the password to access the associated Microsoft account);
- un new PIN (solo account Microsoft);
- a graphic password (access via photo);
- if the camera is compatible, a new pattern for Windows Hello.
The voice Company login, on the other hand, it allows you to eventually associate the device with company accounts via Azure AD or by registering with MDM.
The voice “Family and other users"instead, it allows you to add new accounts to the system; to be precise, the voice "Add family member" it is available only for those who have associated their Microsoft account with the system, and allows you to add an account of a family member to whom, by intervening via the dedicated management page, you can set restrictions or precise parameters.
Clearly, the family account to be added must also be an Outlook account linked to yours.
The voice "Other Users“Instead, it allows to add other users to the system without using the option "Family”Offered by Microsoft. In that case you can add a local account (after setting the password) or un Microsoft account, both administrator and restricted.
By clicking on "Configure assigned access", again from the same panel, you can make sure that an account only has access to one app.
Finally, the voice Synchronize your settings - usable only if you are logged in with a Microsoft account - allows you to enable or disable synchronization of the settings related to the device on the account in question or, possibly, to selectively decide which to proceed with.
In short, a certainly complete panel that allows you to manage accounts in a way that is not very simple, but at least efficient.
To say that the item "User account" it still exists in the control panel of Windows 10, however it only allows you to manage the accounts already present in the "old way". To add new ones, you will still need to go to the panel Settings as described above.
