Phone overheating problem: solutions

Our smartphone gets hot, this is perfectly normal. Nowadays, every mobile of this kind is actually a small PC at hand, like the old PDAs. We can find ourselves with an overheated Smartphone if we play too long with 3D games or if we watch high resolution movies. And despite everything, our little fellow survives: what is being done to protect the cell phone from these high temperatures?

    Phone overheating problem: solutions

The hi-tech solution: Heat pipes. This is especially present in cell phones with integral batteries, as they can designate a case developed specifically for the purpose. Heatpipes are tiny copper or aluminum “ducts” that transmit the heat of the chipset over a larger area, sometimes covering the entire smartphone cover. In this way the heat is distributed and thus allows to reach higher performances. This method is present on many high-grade mobile phones, such as Sony Xperia or iPhones.

The common solution: speed regulation. Each type of processor, be it Snapdragon or A10 Fusion, has an internal control that decreases the CPU speed as the temperature rises, thus forcing it to slow down and consequently stop from overheating. Some phones even have an automatic shutdown if the temperature gets too high. It is a method used by practically all Smartphones, since it does not hurt to have it at hand.

The expensive solution: aluminize everything. There are Smartphones that use a whole block of aluminum with which it creates a real "Sandwich" effect. This block drastically increases costs, but is great for dissipating heat and does not require the battery to be integral. This also encourages the user to look for aluminum covers, so as to further optimize the passage of heat. However, such phones are not often produced, and sometimes the internal "monocoque" is applied together with the first method, as happens above all with iPhones and Notes.

The user-side solution: close all those functions you don't use: such as wireless, GPS, bluetooth which in addition to consuming battery are a job for the CPU and GPU of the device and therefore raise the temperature of the same. Closing unnecessary applications can also be a good way to let your phone breathe and cool down.
