Lost smartphone: what to do if you found one?

Lost smartphone: what to do if you found one?

Have you found a lost smartphone and are looking for a way to return it to its owner? By following a few simple actions, you could help its owner find it more quickly. But be careful not to dig too deep into the data on the device! Follow our guide to making someone happy without making mistakes!

It has almost happened to all of us, and often with a good ending. Losing your smartphone is really worrying. Beyond the price of the device, there is also this data that we had not thought of saving and which will perhaps be lost forever. So the question naturally emerges: what to do when you find a smartphone so that its owner can find it as quickly as possible ?

Put yourself in the shoes of the owner of the lost smartphone

Losing your smartphone, what a pain! It's always good to think that a good soul will try to bring it back to us, but, you can imagine, it is not always the case. Some, when they find an object of value, have the reflex to keep it. Besides the fact that it's not really cool, it's stupid bonus. Newer smartphones often have blocking mechanisms that are very difficult to circumvent. So you will have at home a high-tech brick, and a poor unfortunate person at the other end of the line.

Give yourself the best: you will certainly have one less contraption at home, but making someone happy, that feels good. And it gives a good self-image. In many cases, this good deed comes down to picking up the phone, and making an appointment so that the person can come and pick it up. The case is quickly heard. Obviously, this good deed can also lead you to investigate further.

Charge the smartphone you just found

The first instinct is to try as much as possible to charge the smartphone you have just found. If the battery is dead, all attempts by its owner to locate the device or call it will be unsuccessful. With any luck he'll try to call him, and you can pick up the phone.. If you see more than one missed call, the owner may have tried to reach you.

Try to call back the number in question! Either way, if you let the battery die, the phone won't be trackable. It's like you've made the decision to keep it. Not great.

Contact the SIM card operator

If you haven't received a call after a few hours or even days, it's because: 1. its owner really wanted to get rid of it (that would be a shame anyway). 2. He may have asked his operator to block the SIM card to prevent fraud (a little more likely).

In this case, the easiest way is to extract the SIM card from the terminal and contact the operator. The latter can surely enlighten you on the best way to return the terminal to its owner. They have his address, and you write it on the back of the SIM card!

Go through the contacts and try to let them know that you have found the phone

We usually have a lot of contacts, but not all of them are necessarily friends. These can be business contacts, for example. Try to call a few random numbers among these and ask them if they know someone who has lost their smartphone. Perhaps it will be possible for you to return it to its rightful owner this way.

But the must, if you can find the phone number of the device, it is to try to find out the name of the owner. Give this number every time you call. Maybe some will be reluctant to give you his name, but persevere and you'll find out sooner or later. From the name, you can try to do a search in the directory, or, with this information in your pocket, you can go to the local police station, and ask them to finish the job!

Finally, perhaps some of you will be tempted to look at the photos and other very personal elements contained in the smartphone. Now is the time to put yourself back in the place of the owner: would you also like us to dig into your little things? Never ? So don't do it either. And remember, when you return this smartphone, you will have a nice reward: the smile of its owner and his immense gratitude!
