Realme X50 Pro 5G review

Realme X50 Pro 5G review - In the year of 5G connectivity, speed seems everything. Saving the time we have available even in the most common operations, such as surfing the web or playing a streaming video, seems to have become essential. And the smartphone manufacturers have understood this well, which is why all the leading products have been equipped with the new 5G connection. But this plus came at a price, the surge in the costs of all smartphones. Also Realme it had to adapt, but the new X50 Pro 5G despite everything, it remains competitive with its own €599. Let's find out what he is capable of.

Elegant and refined

The feeling when we find ourselves X50 Pro in our hands is that of one premium smartphone. What is initially striking is the matte finish of the rear glass cover. The satin finish slightly reduces the risk of fingerprints, and the color in our possession is an iridescent red that under the sunlight creates fascinating plays of color, passing from bronze to brown. The steel edges, also slightly satin-finished, help to reinforce the design. Finally, a small touch of personality is given by the on / off button and the ring around the main camera, colored in bronze.

The rear curvature allows us to hold it firmly, it is not slippery at all. The weight also helps in these cases, because the X50 Pro is neither light nor thin: its 207 grams for 9,6mm of thickness they all feel, but after a while you don't notice it anymore.

The camera module is not innovative, with its traffic light shape, but it remains clean and does not even protrude too much.

At the front we find a screen AMOLED of excellent quality, from 6.44 ″ FullHD with update frequency from 90 Hz and filter for eye protection. Really nice to watch, especially during video playback. At the top left we can see a double hole that encloses the two front cameras. Initially it could be a bit out of tune with the harmony of the smartphone, but a few days later and taking advantage of a couple of wallpapers created ad hoc, we forget about their existence.

The hardware equipment

We could not speak of top of the range without the presence on board of a powerful Snapdragon 865, the best Qualcomm home processor, accompanied by 8 or 12 GB of RAM. Assisted by the Adreno 650 GPU, it offers a fluid and lightning-fast user experience, even under stress with multiple applications open in the background. Lightning fast are also the unlock sensor with fingerprint under the screen, or the unlock via face.

Also connectivity it is at the highest level thanks, in addition to the already named 5G, to WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.1 and NFC. Only the headphone jack is missing, but with the proliferation of true wireless earphones, they no longer miss them.

The battery is from 4200 mAh. It is not among the most capacious in circulation, but it allowed us to arrive peacefully at the end of the day with still about 20% of residual charge. But in case of particularly stressful days of use, the 65 watt ultra-fast charging system comes to give us a hand: the smartphone can reach, starting from 0, the 100% charge in just 35 minutes.

This is possible since the battery is divided into two parts, two cells of 2100 mAh each. This split allows you to charge your smartphone at high power and speed without damaging it and overheating it.

In fact, in the package we find, in addition to the smartphone and a comfortable transparent silicone cover, also the 65 watt super charger with USB-A / USB-C cable. Attention because it is only compatible with this model, equipped with fast charging.

Small flaw: IP68 certification and wireless charging are missing.

Realme X50 Pro 5G: how does it shoot?

The photographic sector is perhaps the one a little more subdued than the rest. Realme X50 Pro 5G enjoys four rear cameras. The main sensor is 64 Megapixel, combined with a wide angle sensor from 8 Megapixel also used for macro shots (those at close range), a third 12 Megapixel telephoto sensor with 2X optical, 5X hybrid and 20X digital zoom. To close the circle a small 2 megapixel black and white sensor, which serves for the depth of field. On paper, an extremely versatile setup.

The 64MP main sensor manages to give good but not amazing shots, as the light decreases the quality also decreases. The tele / macro and wide angle are a little worse, which tend to exasperate the colors and sometimes make the images a little too mushy and not very defined.

The front cameras, on the other hand, tend not to manage the backlight well, there is no balance of brightness between the subject and the background. On the other hand, the presence of a wide angle, also frontal, is excellent, which allows group selfies (but also not to dislodge a shoulder to get a good shot).

On the video side there is what is perhaps a small defect that can be improved (software side, with an update). During a shoot, switching from a wide to a narrow zoom and vice versa will cause small jerks. This lack of fluidity is not pleasant to see.

Small plus of RealmeUI: when viewing a video, you can swipe the screen to lower or increase brightness (swipe left) and volume (right).

Real UI

It took. This update of the Android version present on Realme smartphones, based on Color OS (OPPO), has given a touch of modernity. A less oriental and perhaps less childish and confusing graphics. Thanks to the dark mode and the ability to change the colors of the toggles, we get a more elegant and less invasive effect.

As in the latest OPPO models, the concentration mode (which temporarily disables the apps you choose), quick commands that can be called up via a sidebar and an integrated password manager.

The base is now excellent, we hope it will improve further in the future and that it will be constantly updated.

At the moment Realme X50 Pro 5G can only be pre-ordered within the official Realme website. Click here to go to the dedicated page. By adding only € 1 you will have the Realme Buds Wireless in promotion or alternatively € 20 discount for the Realme Air true Wireless.

Realme X50 Pro 5G Review: buy it or not?

Realme X50 Pro is an elegant and robust smartphone that offers excellent performance in all circumstances. With €599 you take home the 8/128 GB RAM version, more than enough to satisfy any user. The only real flaw is the photographic sector, which however has a fair margin for improvement thanks to a software update and the use of the GCam, which will certainly be available soon for this smartphone. If you aim to have a top-of-the-range experience without spending a fortune, this is the smartphone for you. Could Oneplus have found a new rival?
