Aigor Escape from Bishop review: point and click made in Italy

Aigor Escape from Bishop is a video game point and click retro that plunges us into the glorious 90s, years in which the genre experienced a strong expansion with cornerstones such as the series of Monkey Island e Leisure Suit Larry. This title, created by an Italian team consisting of Emiliano Giuliante, Adriano Cerroni e Serena Aronica is inspired by the past in an attempt to offer us a challenging and fun video game. Let's find out all the details in our review of Aigor Escape from Bishop.

Aigor Escape from Bishop recensione

The game tells the misadventures of Aigor, the putrid protagonist who finds himself locked up in the mysterious dungeon of a haunting cathedral, held captive by the Reverend Antoine Santolamazza intent on locking up the wicked creatures in his dungeons. Our zombie, who is expressed only in a cheeky Roman accent, will have to make his way through the puzzles and secrets scattered throughout the dungeon, helped (or not!) By the other creatures trapped like him in this ghostly prison.

The game looks like a classic "Escape Room“, A logic game in which you have to find a way out using every element present in the game world, solving puzzles, puzzles and so on. The whole is immersed in an atmosphere extremely insane with absurd dialogues and characters of Fantozzi memory, such as the pale Contessa Genuflessa Chiavaroni Comes from the sea. To accentuate the hilarious atmosphere we think our Aigor and his  Roman dialect with which he describes the surrounding objects without giving up swear words and "popular" idioms.

The union of macabre settings and the frivolity of the narrative creates a fascinating mix, at times too poor, but, in general, pleasant.

La game mode (gameplay) has all the key features of the point and click and graphic adventures of the past. The various rooms of the dungeon follow one another a series of puzzles and objects to find which will take us to the next area, then to new objects to discover, to combine and so on. The game continues in a fairly linear way and without particular variations of the gameplay since it is a real tribute to the genre.

It must be said, however, that often and willingly finding the objects or the area in which they are to be used is not not at all intuitive creating a climate of considerable frustration. We found ourselves repeatedly clicking randomly on the entire map or exploring the same area over and over again in search of that tiny, tiny object that would make the pointer light up. After the first stages of the game, however, we were able to understand the way of thinking of the developers and their way of "hiding" objects, thus being able to speed up our game.

The old school

Aigor Escape from Bishop review: point and click made in Italy

Aigor Escape from Bishop uses a isometric camera from above which gives us a clear view of the surrounding environment and admire the graphic details. The game is indeed characterized by an interesting graphic style full of details and light and shadow effects. Although animations and special effects aren't all that special, they manage to grab the player's attention and help create aeerie setting with horror themes.

A separate discussion must be made for the soundtrack and in particular, al dubbing. The latter is defined by an all too evident amateur mold. While this choice contributes to the frivolous atmosphere of the game, on the other hand it reduces the player's involvement.

Aigor Escape from Bishop review: final opinion

Definitely Aigor Escape from Bishop is a fun tribute to the point and click genre which stands out for its demented humor. The defects are not lacking but, in principle, it represents a all Italian project successful without annoying bugs and various glitches. Some game elements have been improved with free updates and patches, and we are confident that the developers will continue to fix the game's flaws.

A good example of what made in Italy can also do in the world of video games. Daje so!
