All you need is your Android and iOS device; always keep it at hand to download the apps that I propose to you with me. We will discover step by step the app to take photos that I will make available to you. That said, let's get started. Finally, I just have to wish you a good read.

Microsoft Pix Camera (iOS)

App to take photos

The first application for taking photos that I want to report to you is Microsoft Pix Camera. Only available for devices with an iOS operating system, the Microsoft Pix app is free and allows you to take advantage of an integrated artificial intelligence system to make better shots.

The Microsoft Pix app, once installed, replaces the default camera app and takes pictures with parameters automatically: it is therefore not possible to change the camera parameters manually.

The basic operation of Microsoft Pix is to take 10 shots in rapid sequence. The artificial intelligence will then choose the best shots and automatically delete the photos that are not needed. Microsoft Pix does its job well even in the presence of photos of people; useful in this case the function that detects if people smile or if their eyes are open, so that the best shot is chosen. The app has a very simplified user interface; as if it were the default smartphone camera.

Microsoft Pix also allows you to perform some basic editing features, including through filters and frames. Microsoft Pix is free and has no banner ads.

VSCO (Android/iOS)

App to take photos

If you are looking an app to take photos that replaces your smartphone's default camera, you can turn to VSCO. The application is free to download for Android and iOS. Unlike Microsoft Pix, VSCO allows you to improve the photos taken by changing the default parameters of the smartphone camera.

Once you have installed the application and registered, you will be able to access the section Camera (symbol of camera). While you're about to take a photo, you can then choose to manually set the brightness, exposure, and other main values. The parameters are customizable, thanks to a series of levers, but you can also choose to leave everything as it is, by selecting the mode Automatica for each value (symbol A).

At first glance, you will immediately notice how the VSCO app presents itself with a minimal user interface, perhaps not very intuitive for those who are beginners with applications of this type. Furthermore, the absence of an explanatory caption on the values to be changed, makes VSCO an app aimed more at users who are passionate about photography, rather than at amateur users.

The application also allows for basic image editing with pre-set post production tools and presets. VSCO is an application free and does not have advertising banners. However, the app offers the possibility to carry out micro transactions with in-app purchases to get additional presets and tools a payment. Prices vary depending on the package you want to buy (ranging from € 0,99 to € 8,99).

Candy Camera (Android/iOS)

App to take photos

If you love taking selfies, the Candy Camera app is definitely for you. The application is available for free for Android and iOS and comes with an attractive user interface. The main feature that will immediately catch your eye is certainly the presence of numerous filters and stickers to apply to photos. As you can see, this makes the app suitable primarily for a young audience and will likely be more popular with a female audience.

The Candy Camera application also replaces your default smartphone camera and has tons of options to take a photo with customized parameters. You thus have the possibility to carry out advanced editing, to apply colorful and playful stickers to photos, with numerous customization and modification options for each selected parameter.

The app has a very playful style, specially designed on the basis of current trendy applications, which allow you to apply filters and stickers in real time to photos: Snapchat, Instagram and the new Facebook camera, just to give an example.

Candy Camera is free and supports you through advertising banners not particularly invasive. A negative side of the app is perhaps that of consuming a little too much battery when running, overheating the smartphone a little, but it still depends on the device on which you will install it.

Camera 51 (Android/iOS)

App to take photos

For Android and iOS devices there are many apps that replace the default smartphone camera, but very few care about helping you understand the basics of photography and, in particular, how to take a picture in an optimal way.

It is precisely for this reason that, in my list of app to take photos, I choose to recommend Camera 51. The application is downloadable for free on all devices with Android and iOS operating systems and effectively replaces the camera of your smartphone.

As you will see after installation, the application offers a minimal user interface, with few but comprehensive tools available. The purpose of the app, in fact, is not to allow you to edit with creative tools, filters or effects, but simply to help you take better photos.

If you try to frame a subject or an object to be photographed, using the Camera 51 app as a camera, instead of the default one, you will notice how the app, thanks to a series of algorithms, will advise you how to photograph the object / subject or how to position the frame so that you can take into account the horizon and perspective.

By default the app considers a main subject but, in the presence of a group photo, for example, you can activate the option Multiple subjects simply with a touch on the screen. Room 51 is available for free on Android and iOS and does not have advertising banners.

Line Camera (Android/iOS)

App to take photos

In the wake of popular applications for editing photos, applying stickers and filters in real time, you can download for free the Line Camera application. Line Camera is available for Android and iOS and you can have it already integrated, if you use the Line messaging app. If not, you can download the camera app separately from the app to send messages.

Even this application is characterized at first glance by its style and very youthful user interface, but its tools are quite useful and interesting. The main peculiarity of Line Camera is its enclosure of many tools, thus avoiding you to download more than one app.

Upon startup, Line Camera will replace itself with the default camera of your Android and iOS smartphone or tablet. You will then have access to different settings to change parameters such as brightness and exposure, for example. Apart from these tools, already available in the previous apps that I have indicated to you, one of the most interesting features of Line Camera is the possibility of making a photo collage in real time.

To do this, go to the Main Menu app and tap the tile Camera to open the Line Camera. While in the center is the camera, the two side bars allow you to access the most interesting tools of this app. Next to the symbol of the cottage, in the bar at the top, you will find the symbol of two rectangles. If you press it, you will find out how you can for example make a photo collage in real time.

The Line Camera app is free and does not have advertising banners. However, it is possible to do purchases in the app to have access to filters and stickers Premium. Prices vary depending on the filter and adhesive chosen, with an average of € 1,99 per package purchased.

However, you can try the app in the Lite version, free but extremely limited.
  • Manual – Custom Exposure camera (iOS): Only available on iOS, this application simulates the settings and photo experience of a DSLR, through the use of an iPhone.
