Call of Duty Modern Warfare review: back to basics

Call of Duty Modern Warfare review: back to basics

Since 2007 the saga of Call of Duty marked an era, becoming one of the most important shooters out there. Today we have reached the sixteenth chapter, entitled Call of Duty Modern Warfare and landed on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 the 25 October. What's new? We tell you about it in this review.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare review: an unexpected return

This new chapter no longer follows the plot of the previous titles, but is set in a new universe in which, however, we will find characters already seen. During our adventure we will play the role of a CIA agent and our task will be to bring back the order and peace in Urzikstan, a Middle Eastern country torn apart by an internal war between troops of Russian invaders, led by General Barkov, and a terrorist cell known as Al-Qatala.

The latter will be responsible for various attacks on European cities, in particular the explosion of a car bomb in London. During this event, we will get to know the second character playable campaign: it is a British special services sergeant, Kyle "Gaz" Garrick who will join the SAS team of choice, captained by the veteran John price.

The two characters will then have to eliminate the terrorists and drive the Russians out of Urzikstan, who in the meantime have revealed their true intentions.

The two playable characters will therefore reunite in Urzikstan where they will try to eliminate the terrorist cell and drive out the Russians who, in the meantime, had made known their intentions to use a new type of lethal gas to "quell" any type of revolt in the country.

Campaign and Multiplayer: two business cards

Like any self-respecting Call of Duty, after fixing the initial settings we are faced with a wide choice of activities: Modern Warfare offers us the Single Campaign, Classic Multiplayer mode and with mezzi, and different modalities of Cooperative (Survival e Spec Ops).

The single campaign, which counts approximately among the six and seven hours game, is characterized by the presence of interesting missions and that you differ from each other: each of them will keep you attached to the screen and you will reach the end of the title without even realizing it.

The undisputed workhorse is, without a doubt, the Multiplayer mode which introduces the cross play: this means that you will have the possibility to play against your friends even if they have one different platform from your (PlayStation and Xbox One, etc).

The main modes that multiplayer offers us are clash e Earth War: the first is the classic 2v2 clash, featuring a selection of weapons that changes with each turn. The second, on the other hand, can be considered an explosion of pure fun.

Earth War mode counts for a maximum of sixty-four players that will move within very large maps and can take advantage of several means of transport (tanks, helicopters etc).

Putting aside the fun factor that, undoubtedly, makes this experience even more interesting, this mode highlights the features that make this title special: the graphics and sound sector, which are almost the envy of the best cinematic films.

The settings, the characters and the weapons were made in an excellent way, it is possible to notice how much the developers have focused on the details, fixing and improving every little detail.

Game bonus: weapon customization

One of the main aspects that takes Call of Duty Modern Warfare to the next level is the ability to customize the weapons to your liking. You can choose every detail, in order to create the perfect weapon for you and for the map in which you are going to play.

You will find yourself in front of a real workshop, where you will also spend hours customizing and upgrading your weapons. Also, in the course of your adventure you will have the opportunity to unlock various improvements, which you can then use to create your ideal gear.

Every time you go to remove or put a new upgrade, the game will show you the pros and cons that characterize it, helping you in your choice. Obviously it will be impossible to have a "perfect" weapon from every point of view: depending on the improvement you are going to set, you will have a more powerful weapon or a more precise, lighter or heavier one.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare review: buy it or not?

Call of Duty Modern Warfare looks like the chapter that all fans of the saga were looking forward to: it is a real back to the origins, characterized by a compelling plot and an extremely realistic graphic sector, which bring the smile back to the face of veterans.

Like everything on this planet, even our Modern Warfare has flaws: in particular I found the presence of some gltich chart, although these are minimal things. Also I feel I have to point out the weakness of the co-op modes that I found quite disappointing, they weren't able to grab my attention like the single campaign or the multiplayer mode.

Finally, Modern Warfare is presented as a title capable of thrilling and entertaining even the external to the saga, that is, those who have never played a Call of Duty. A title to be tried in any case, by everyone.
