Corsair iCUE LC100 review: the perfect magnetic triangles for your PC

You know, the LEDs inside a PC are never enough, especially if they are RGB and customizable. In support of this theory we tried the new kit Corsair iCUE LC100, designed to make your gaming PC even more beautiful: the device consists of small RGB triangles magnetized to be placed inside the case forming customized compositions. Here she is our review of Corsair's iCUE LC100 kit!

Corsair iCUE LC100 review: small triangles for great customization

The light panels Corsair iCUE LC100 are a customizable RGB led kit designed to beautify your desktop PC even more. They are more suitable for gaming PCs, since they fit very well with the components of this sector, therefore RAM and fans with customizable lighting.

The kit we tested consists of 9 triangles each equipped with 9 RGB LEDs for uniform light diffusion. These triangles are interconnected via a magnet and contact pin system and each mini panel is equipped with contacts on two sides. This means that when you compose the template, you can connect two triangles to each "parent" triangle. The modules can be connected via two types of magnetized cylinders: a smaller one of 4mm and a larger one of 5.5mm for arrange the triangles at an angle, up to 90 degrees. You can in fact attach the panels in such a way that they follow a corner of the case, covering two adjacent sides.

What we find in the package

The starter kit is made up of 9 mini triangles, of which the main one is equipped with connection cables, 10 cylindrical connection brackets; a USB connection cable for the motherboard and an extension cable for the RGB connection. Inside the package we also find the Lighting Node PRO, the beating heart of the kit, which some of you will already know. It is in fact a controller that takes care of the connection between the light panels and the motherboard e allows full control via software. The kit is also compatible with other controllers that may already be in your possession, perhaps used to manage the RGB fans of the setup: the Commander Core XT and the Commander Pro.

The Lighting Node PRO is equipped with two ports to connect the RGB cable of the kit, the input for the USB cable to be connected to the motherboard for software customization and a SATA cable to be connected to the PC power supply in order to operate the everything. Last but not least, inside the package you will find some double-sided adhesive strips so you can easily attach the controller to the back of the case, where cable management is also done, for a clean installation.

The triangle set also comes with an RGB cable to connect to the controller and a SATA cable to connect to the power supply. As we anticipated, each triangle is equipped with 5 pin su due to, while the third side is smooth and free of contacts. In this way infinite shapes can be created, as long as the triangles are adjacent and make contact with each other through the right side. Furthermore, the cylindrical magnet must always be placed between one triangle and another. If nine triangles aren't enough for you, there is also an expansion kit: this variant, without a controller, will provide you with nine other modules, for a total of 18. The two kits can be installed adjacent, connecting only an RGB cable, or separated, both connected to the controller.

Corsair iCUE LC100 review: how to install

Installing Corsair iCUE LC100 light panels is very simple: the only difficulty you will encounter is the connection and passage of the various cables. First, you need to connect the main triangle to the controller, using one of the available RGB ports. Then you need to connect the power supply via SATA cable to both the main triangle and the controller, and connect the USB cable to the motherboard.

Once these connections are made, the modules will light up and you can change the shape to your liking. Each panel will light up immediately after its connection, so you can immediately understand if the connection was made in the right way and if everything is working correctly.

Each small panel is provided with a magnet on the back, this allows you to easily attach the shape to the metal part of the case, in order to create customized and stable shapes. The magnet is in fact strong enough to support the weight of the entire block and you can completely indulge yourself by customizing your setup.

Customization via software

Once you have chosen the shape, you just have to complete the customization using the iCUE dedicated software. The program, which can be downloaded for free on the Corsair website, is the same one used to manage other compatible components such as RGB fans. As soon as you open the software - updated to the latest version - the new controller will be detected. All you have to do is select the lighting configuration and set "Triangles for LC100 light" via the lower drop-down menu: the triangles will then appear on the right side of the window, where you can add, remove or move triangles to adapt them to the shape you have chosen.

Then you can go to the illumination channel, in our case the first, and choose the type of effect to apply. There are many preset effects, from sequential to rainbow to stroboscopic, but you can too create your custom effect.

The visual impact is truly gorgeous, especially if you love RGB LEDs. The colors are homogeneous and well calibrated and, especially when combined with other components with lighting, the final effect will be really beautiful. The idea is a little bit that of the famous Nanoleaf light panels, which hang on the wall: they give a touch of personality to your PC case, which will literally come to life.

Corsair iCUE LC100 review: buy it or not?

In conclusion, we really liked these iCUE LC100 light panels from Corsair, even if we are a bit biased because we cannot hide the passion for RGB LEDs inside the PC. The preset effects are many and they are capable of change the aesthetics of the case without however falling into being invasive or too tamarri. The product obviously gives its best when the room is poorly lit, but even during the day the colors are clearly visible and a point in favor of this kit is definitely the ease of installation and configuration.

The cost is certainly not contained, on Amazon you can find the complete kit for just over 120 € and the expansion kit to approx 97 €, but the quality is really high and it is a reliable and fun product, albeit a niche one. We can only recommend the purchase, especially if you are in love with RGB lighting!
