An upcoming Borderlands 3 Valentine's Day event called Broken Hearts features a great way to earn a variety of unique loot and participate in new challenges. The event comes from Mauritius, who provides excellent loot for those who want to get their hands dirty. The event focuses on the floating hearts hanging above an enemy's head, and you have to bring them down to reap the rewards.
The challenges that Mauritius will have everything to do with these floating hearts. After you shoot them, several different things could happen. Hearts could explode into a pile of fire, they could turn an enemy into an ally for you, or they could drop some decent loot to add to your endless collection. Maurice follows whenever you shoot one of these hearts, granting you a reward whenever you hit a specific landmark.
Rewards for Destroying Hearts include:
- 10 - "ECHOcardiogram" echo skin
- 25 - "Cosmic Romance" weapon jewelry
- 50 - Terminal Polyaimorous "Legendary Maliwan SMG
- 75 Vault Hunter "Heartbreaker" skin
- 100 - Legendary Jakobs Sniper Rifle "Wedding Invitation"
When you reach the benchmark, Maurice will send your reward to your mailbox. You can grab it from there when you're ready to claim it.
The Broken Hearts event begins February 13 at 15:00 p.m. PST and ends February 20 at 8:59 a.m. PST. You have until then to complete the event and wrap things up, but you can also choose not to participate in the event for its duration. You can select this option from the main menu. At the moment, we don't have a clear idea of what other challenges Maurice might have to look forward to for Vault Hunters. A full week is a huge amount of time to complete these tasks, so many of you can probably bet that Mauritius will have more at your disposal than just shooting floating hearts.
For those who want to participate in the Broken Hearts event, be sure to check your game settings before jumping into your game to make sure it is enabled. If you join a game with a friend, they will have to deactivate it in their menu, but if they activate it, you are out of luck when you join.
