Borderlands 3: Where to find the Lord of the Rings Moria Easter Egg

Borderlands 3: Where to find the Lord of the Rings Moria Easter Egg

Borderlands 3 fans are no strangers to Easter eggs. The Gearbox Software team love to connect a fun and unique little culture throughout their matches. Borderlands 3 is no different, with the inclusion of a Rick and Morty duo, and a One Punch Man shotgun, if you're lucky. Another Easter Egg that's easier to come across is the Lord of the Rings Egg, which is particularly notable for Balrog and the Mines of Moria. Here's where it is, how you do it, and what you get to find it.

Lord of the Rings Easter Egg in Borderlands 3

You're not going to have the chance to see this Easter egg right off the bat. Instead, it's much later in the game, as it's connected to a level 44 quest called The Demon in the Dark. For fans of The Lord of the Rings, this already screams Balrog, as he's a creature made up of fire and shadow.

To find this side quest, you need to go to the locality, call Konrad Underground, and you will find it on Pandora. The quest will take you through these abandoned mines in the game. It is very much like the journey the community endured when they were forced off the beaten path by Saurman the White. The Gearbox Software team embarked on the quest. There are quite a few things in the quest. Much of it was recreated in-game directly from the movie and the book. There's no reason to detail the whole Easter egg or what's going on. The Quest is a huge nostalgic journey, and there is no reason to describe it to hardcore fans who want to experience the journey on their own.

At the end of the quest, you will face Borderlands 3's manifestation of a Balrog. The creature comes to the end and it's a series of shots and strikes. The boss has the chance to drop the legendaries. However, none of them are a direct reference to the story of The Lord of the Rings. Instead, you will get this weapon as a guaranteed reward at the end of the quest. It's a shotgun called The Burning Chomper. When you pull it, it triggers a series of lava-like whips, much like the Balrog used to pull Gandalf off the bridge.
