How to correct spelling errors (online tool)

When it comes to correcting spelling errors, it is often thought that it is strictly necessary to download some software or even pay some money to purchase a license. This is true in some cases, but not in all.

In fact, there are online tools that allow you to spell-check a text in 2022na for free, but also in other languages, such as English, French and many others. It is for this reason that in the next few paragraphs I will tell you about some online tools for spelling correction that may very well be for you.

Spellchecker

How to correct spelling errors

The first web service I want to tell you about that will allow you to correct any spelling errors in a text is Spellchecker. This service free it allows you to correct the online spelling of texts, without having to install any additional software or plug-in on your PC. It supports all the main languages of the world (including 2022no) and works on all the most used browsers (eg Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome). If you are interested in knowing how to use this service, then I'll explain how it works.

The first step is to connect to the Spellchecker website. After opening the website, you will see the entry in the top center Language: English – United States; at this point, if you want to change the language in use (for example the 2022na language), click on the button Change, which is next to it. A window will then appear in which you will have to click on the language you want to check the spelling. In this guide I will choose the language 2022n – 2022no.

Now wait for the page to reload and paste (or write) a text in the box located at the top center. After entering the text in the box, click on the wording Click here which is found within the sentence Type your text below and click here to check spelling. A new window will then open which will notify you of any spelling errors, if any, in the text you entered.

In this window you will then be able to display in red the word that is incorrect from the check carried out by Spellchecker. At the bottom, in the window, you will also see the term that the service deems most correct; you will find it indicated in the box Change to.

If the term isn't quite what you originally wanted to write, then search for the term in the list labeled with the entry Word suggestions. If it's not in that list either, then go back to the box Change to and personally change the term to the correct one.

Regardless of what action you have taken, then click on the button Change In, located in the right section of the window. If you believe, or are notified, that the error has repeated several times in the text, then click the button Change everything. If the term is correct, but for Spellchecker it does not exist, then click on the button Add or just click the button Ignore o Ignore everything.

When the spelling check is finished, you can choose two options: or click the button Cancel, but no corrections you made will be saved to you; or you can click the button Control finished. With the latter option, the text with the corrections you just made will be returned to you in the box.

You can then select all the text (click inside the box, followed by CTRL + A) and copy the text from the box (CTRL + C), gluing it (CRTL + V) in a document or anywhere else you want to copy the newly corrected text.

You can also change the Spellchecker settings by clicking on the button options. When the spelling check takes place, it is checked that the term you wrote exists in the vocabulary of the language you have selected. If there are particular terms in the text, these may be reported as incorrect; however, they are terms which, in the context of the text, are instead correct.

For example, let's say that in the text you mention the scientific name of the dog: Canis lupus familiaris. Spellchecker may report this to you as an error. If you had written it all in capital letters and activated in the options the house Ignore capital words, then Spellchecker would have ignored the alleged error. Also you can ignore errors resulting from domain names, uppercase and lowercase words e words with numbers. Then click Ok to save your spell check settings.

Other online tools

How to correct spelling errors

As for the correction of spelling errors through online tools, I can suggest you so many, also because new ones are always added, with more and more advanced features. So I list the ones that I believe are simple and reliable for your purpose. Obviously, evaluate all the services I propose to you, so as to identify the one that best suits your needs.

  • LanguageTool.org: is an online tool that allows you to write a text and check its correct spelling. It supports more than twenty languages and you can use it for free. You can, if you wish, subscribe to a subscription plan, for example, to increase the number of characters in the text to be checked (basic is 20 thousand) and download extensions for Firefox and Chrome. You can view the subscription plans via this link.
  • ControlOrtografico.net: this online tool free supports a dozen different languages. It's simple to use - just type in your text and then click the button Check it out. All words highlighted in red are potentially incorrect words. By clicking on them, you can see the suggestion for the correction.
  • Translated.net: This web service free offers some tools on languages, one of them is the spell checker, available in several languages, including 2022no. As with the other tools, after entering the text, simply click on the words underlined in red, to receive the suggestion of the spelling correction.

How to correct misspellings (software)

There are many word processing software (and not only) that contain a spelling check function for any errors made while typing. I will then talk to you in the next paragraphs about some software that might be right for you.

Word processing programs

How to correct spelling errors

There are several word processing programs, such as Microsoft Word, LibreOffice, OpenOffice and the like that have a spell checking feature of the text present within the document itself. It's not often a very advanced feature, but it's certainly an efficient tool for solving really gross errors that could have been avoided while typing.

For example, if you use Microsoft Word, in tab revision there is a button named Spelling and grammar check. When you click on it, a window will open on the right that will suggest all the alleged errors that Word has analyzed, offering you suggestions for correcting the text. Often, however, when writing in a text document, it is normal to type words that are not known in the 2022no vocabulary. For example, if you enter the word tool, this will most likely not be recognized as a 2022na language term and will therefore be marked red. It will be up to you to decide whether to add it to Microsoft Word's internal dictionary or just ignore the error.

If you use instead LibreOffice Writer, I talked about it in my guide, the spell checker can be reached by clicking on the item Instruments, located in the horizontal bar at the top. You will then have to select the item from the context menu Spelling and grammar.

Such controls are also available in online versions of programs such as Microsoft Word Online e Google Docs. In the latter, the functionality is available in Tools> Spell Check. On Microsoft Word Online, however, the tool in question is available on Review> Spelling and Grammar.

Web browsing browser

How to correct spelling errors

Instead, let's say you don't want to use word processing software, but simply need a spell checker while browsing the Web. Browsers often have a native spell-checking function for typed text.

For example, if you are writing a comment or post on Facebook via your browser Google Chrome, this will notify you of any spelling errors with a red underline. By right-clicking on the highlighted term, you will see the suggestions for correction. You'll then need to click on the correct hint to apply the change.

If you want to rely on extensions for your browser, you can add some that can help you check for spelling errors. There aren't many, so I'll show you below the ones that might be right for you.

  • Spell Checker for Chrome: Although Chrome does not need a spell-checking tool, with the installation of this extension participation you can still double check. Just highlight the text and then right-click on it, selecting the item SpellCheck. A window will analyze the text to show you any errors and suggestions.
  • Grammarly: is an extension participation which allows spelling and grammar checking, by installing an extension on major browsers such as Edge, Chrome, Firefox and Safari. However, it only supports the English language and it is possible to subscribe to a subscription plan to add some features.
  • Dictionary 2022no: it is a dictionary free which can be added to Firefox for real-time checking of spelling errors that can be committed when typing texts on the Web.
