In this way the driver distribution process should be faster and above all more malleable for all the players involved. Among the first companies to embrace the WMD initiative is Intel, which released its first Universal Windows Driver, called UWD 25.20.100.6444.

Beyond this technical innovation that we hope will benefit everyone, from hardware and software manufacturers to end users, the driver adds 12 new games to the title list with support for self-tuning on Intel integrated GPUs and processors with Radeon RX Vega M graphics, bringing the total number to 22. In addition, the optimization utility in the control panel can now re-scan the system for new titles to optimize without requiring a system reboot.

Release 25.20.100.6444 includes support for Valve's Artifact card game and further optimizations for Eternal and Farming Simulator 2019. Users with Iris Pro graphics or higher can now play Grip Combat Racing. Other improvements in this version include lower RAM consumption when running OpenGL titles, improved battery life when using Display Refresh Rate Switching on supported monitors, and a more stable Vulkan driver. Also fixed several bugs, of a general nature as well as in the following list of games: NBA 2K19, FIFA 19, Assassin's Creed Origins, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth. Also fixed an issue that resulted in a performance drop in Battlefield 4 and Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Intel explains in the release notes that these UWD drivers are not backward compatible with previous drivers. “This means that if you want to go back to a previous driver in the future you will have to uninstall it via App and Features and reboot the system before switching to the old driver. Should bankruptcies occur, even serious instability could emerge ".

Finally, the company warns against using the INF / Have-Disk method to install or uninstall the driver as it bypasses the installer designed to install these new drivers and this could cause significant instability.
