Motorola Edge 30 Pro review, power and style

Motorola presented a new smartphone and did not limit itself. The new Motorola Edge 30 Pror has the most powerful of processors, which makes it fly Android 12. And then a good photographic department, an interesting look and a great screen. Without forgetting the fast charging. In short: a top of the range, with an attractive price. But how does it behave in everyday use? We tested Motorola Pro Edge 30 to tell you what we think about this review.

Our Motorola Edge 30 Pro review

No limits (or almost). Motorola wanted the most for its new top-of-the-line smartphone, which is fast. Indeed very fast: the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor makes every application fly across the screen from the refresh rate it reaches 144Hz. And then it has a respectable photographic department, with three high-quality cameras on the back and a sensor for selfies of 60MP (but without telephoto).

But we were happily surprised to find that the new Motorola Edge 30 Pro also has a Dolby Atmos sound, new software features and many other really cool premium features. Motorola has aimed at the top of the range and did not want to leave anything to chance. With a smartphone that perhaps has something cheaper than more expensive smartphones but that offers the best where it counts.

An (almost) spatial design

Opening the packaging of the Motorola Edge 30 Pro we tested in this review, the color Cosmos Blue (there is also the Stardust White variant) on the back of the smartphone struck us immediately. The dark blue is immediately elegant, but in removing the smartphone from the box we immediately saw how the light plays on the opaque back. There are truly spatial nuances to this smartphone.

Motorola Edge 30 Pro review, power and style

Motorola needs to be aware of the nice accents of their smartphone, because they put a transparent cover in the box that continues to show the nuances of the device. The arrangement of the camera bump instead seems to us rather anonymous. Given the care that Motorola has put into every other detail, we would have expected a more innovative solution.

In the package you will also find the charger for the TurboPower, with USB-C cable. Motorola also made up for the lack of the audio jack with a pair of USB-C headphones. We would have preferred the good old 3,5mm jack, but it must be admitted that Motorola has done more than most other manufacturers.

Smartphone measures 163 75.9 x x 8.79mm and weighs 196g, a little too much to get noticed but on average for smartphones of this size. In the hand it is not too big and the build quality seemed excellent to us.

On the right you will find both the unlock / power button, where there is also the fingerprint reader (really quick and accurate). Above, find the volume button.

Motorola Edge 30 Pro review: a big screen

Motorola has equipped its Edge 30 Pro with a screen 6,7-inch Max Vision pOLED, with the refresh rate from 144Hz. The flat display has a resolution FHD+ (2400 x 1080), with colors 10-bit and support HDR10 +. Beyond the stats, we really liked it during this review. Adaptive brightness never made us squint, even in the sun. The high contrast makes the colors shine without 'exaggerating' them, with an excellent one chromatic fidelity.

Motorola Edge 30 Pro review, power and style

The 144Hz shine especially in games: the difference with the 120Hz of competing smartphones is noticeable. But in everyday use it doesn't really make a difference, so much so that most users could use the automatic refresh rate adjustment feature.

If the display is of excellent workmanship, what makes the difference are the customization possibilities that Android 12 and Motorola leave to the user. Not only can you use the new ones widget, but you can choose whether to use deep or natural system-wide colors (as well as adjusting its warmth) and tons of other tweaks. In this Motorola Edge 30 Pro review we tested several adjustments and the possibilities are really many.

A concentrate of power

Motorola has decided to partner with Qualcomm, bringing it Snapdragon 8 Gen1 on its Edge 30 Pro. We're talking about the most powerful Android processor for this year, at least in CPU performance. Our test device has 12GB di RAM (there is also the 8GB version) and 256GB of memory UFS 3.1 (there are also 128GB and 512GB).

As you can expect from these specifications, Motorola's new top of the range is very fast. We have never had a slowdown even in the most intensive games, even going from one application to another quickly we have not seen significant delays.

In everyday use the smartphone is really responsive and when you play Motorola automatically activates the gaming mode, which in addition to adding some commands and customizations, activates the 360Hz touch sampling. You can play to the fullest, even taking advantage of the audio Dolby Atmos (really great and with a powerful volume) to immerse yourself in the games.

For the sake of scruple we also carried out some benchmarks with Geekbench 5, which technically confirmed what you notice in use: this smartphone can do everything and do it at maximum power.

Motorola Edge 30 Pro review

Another aspect in which Motorola has not spared itself is the photographic department. In fact, on the back you will find a main sensor 50MP (f / 1.8, 1.0μm) with stabilization OIS, for an ultra-wide 50MP (f/2.2, 0.64μm) and a 2MP depth sensor (f / 2.4, 1.75μm). The lack of a telephoto sensor might make some people turn up their noses, but we believe it is more important to have two cameras of similar quality such as wide and ultra-wide to meet the needs of most users.

The functionality All-Pixel Focus promises lightning-fast focus and we have to say that Motorola keeps its promises. If you want to take quick photos and without thinking too much about the adjustments, it will be a formidable ally. Optical stabilization helps tremendously especially when recording video HDR10+, which Motorola promises will bring out a billion shades of color. We have not counted all of them, but the quality seems very good to us.

Motorola Edge 30 Pro review, power and style

The Motorola Edge 30 Pro's camera software suggests when to switch to the ultra-wide camera for macros, which are of excellent quality. However, we did notice that the ultra wide angle lens is slightly warmer in colors than the main one, when you switch between them in a video. Furthermore, the lack of OIS is noticeable, if your hands are not very steady like ours.

The photographic department is of excellent quality, but it is the selfie camera that really surprises. The choice of 60MP (f/2.2, 0.6μm) allows you to do the 'binning of pixels' even in selfies, allowing excellent shots even in different light conditions. Plus, it becomes a really great webcam when you make video calls.

Finally, we absolutely loved the camera software, simple but with the possibility of using many different features. Like the shots Dual Capture or Group selfies, up to professional settings. Artificial intelligence helps to further improve the shots and videos, even if especially in selfies it seems to us that it intervenes a little too much. And the night mode exposes a little too much.

    Autonomy and recharge

Motorola has equipped its Edge 30 Pro with a 4.800mAh, which during this review did not disappoint us, but neither did it exalt us. Even during the most intense testing phases, when we jumped from game to game, watched streaming videos, and made the most of 5G, we still got to the point. end of the day. Using it less you can even get to day and a half. A solid performance, even if not excellent: there are those who do better. But you will hardly need more.

The recharge TurboPower a 68W allows you to recover half of the autonomy in just a quarter of an hour. We also tried a mini recharge before leaving the house: in five minutes (maybe even less) we got from 5% to 17%, arriving home with a little more autonomy. An excellent result.

There is also the ricarica wireless a 15 watt, which is not bad at all. As well as the possibility of reverse charging to other smartphones or 5W devices.

Pure Android 12, but with great customization

Motorola has decided to provide an experience Android 12 very close to what you find on Pixels, including applications. Don't find useless apps, Google Lens it is integrated into the camera for image and QR code searches. We especially appreciated the notification management, convenient and elegant.

From the app Motorcycle on your Motorola Edge 30 Pro you can personalize at most the interface. We immediately enabled the Material You which adapts the color of the notifications and menus to the background of the phone, a very appreciated touch of class. You can also manage the gesture in a very comprehensive way, the same goes for the screen settings.

Motorola Edge 30 Pro review, power and style

User experience is among the best you could want on an Android smartphone, the system is fast, well thought out and with the possibility of many customizations. If you like to model your smartphone on yourself, you can hardly find better.

There are also payments with NFC con Google Pay, but you also have the option to share contacts or media with NFC. Motorola has also relied on its software experience with ThinkShield for mobile, which ensures the highest safety standards: it does not affect the use of the smartphone, but allows you to feel calm.

Finally, Motorola allows you to connect your smartphone quickly to a larger screen (tablet, PC, TV) both wired and wireless with ready for. Which is particularly useful for watching streaming videos but also for using the smartphone as a webcam during PC video calls. An interesting and well implemented idea: perhaps you will not use it much, but it is one more weapon for this smartphone.

Motorola Edge 30 Pro Review: Is It Worth It?

The new Motorola Edge 30 Pro has tons of qualities in its favor. A very powerful processor, with excellent performance also thanks to Android 12. With many customization options, a good battery with fast charging and a quality screen. There camera seemed to us more than up to par, even if the telephoto sensor is missing.

Perhaps it cannot compete with the top of the range over a thousand euros. But with a starting price of 849,90 €, it could be an interesting investment for those who want to make the most of Android 12. The competition is very high. But the extensive customization, snappy performance, and full, quality user experience make the Motorola Edge 30 Pro a truly compelling product.

You can immediately find Motorola Edge 30 Pro in preorder on Amazon, in both colors. And by March 6 you can buy it at 749 € for the early bird price: a really interesting launch offer, which makes it much easier to recommend the purchase to those who want to experience the maximum of Android 12.
