myCanal is finally available in Full HD on all Android and Android TV terminals. At first, only four channels are compatible with 1080p. We explain the conditions under which you can enjoy Full HD on your Android smartphone and on your Android TV.
“The deployment of 1080p (Full HD) has started” announces Canal + on its website. Since February 4, 2021, four channels are broadcast in Full HD on Android and on Android TV : National Geo, Eurosport 1, OCS City and CSTAR. To enjoy Full HD channels on myCanal, you must meet these few conditions:
- Install myCANAL 4.4.3 from the Google Play Store
- Enjoy a speed greater than 5 Mb / s
- Watch a LIVE channel broadcasting in 1080p
- Have a terminal compatible with Widevine Level 1 DRM (rooted Android smartphones are therefore not compatible) and with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels or higher
In a second step, about sixty channels will abandon 720p to switch to 1080p. Canal + is also working on the arrival of Full HD on all content offered on demand. The firm unfortunately does not give any deployment date.
Anyway, myCanal on Android is finally catching up on the iOS version, which has already benefited from Full HD since July 2021. In addition, the service is also catching up with other players in the sector, including Netflix, which already offer Full HD content since long time.

Full HD is still only a step away, report our colleagues from Digital. “Ultra HD will be available well before the Tokyo Olympics and well before the European Football Cup which will start on June 12,” announces the media.
