Razer Turret Review: An expensive but effective peripheral for Xbox One

Quick, simple to install and designed to be used from the comfort of your sofa. I'm talking about Razer Turret, the bundle of mouse and keyboard dedicated to all owners of Xbox One. Yes, now you can play on the home console using good old peripherals. The question is: is the game worth the candle?

Razer's excellence

Let's start with what I really loved about the Razer Turret: simplicity and performance.

First of all the installation is incredibly basic. Just access the mouse and keyboard and insert the small receiver into the USB port of your Xbox One. That's all. No programs, complex pairing or settings to fix. In seconds you will be ready to play.

Two exceptional protagonists will accompany you on your virtual adventures. The first is the keyboard, extremely similar in functionality to BlackWidow. Solid, equipped with the usual Green Switches produced by the American company and without the numeric keypad, this peripheral is responsive and very pleasant to use. Among other things, it will help you to enter codes, search for games or reply to messages in chat without using the app or even the controller.

The mouse, on the other hand, resembles the famous Mamba by Razer. On board the 5 DPI 16.000G optical sensor and the inevitable mechanical keys guaranteed for a maximum of 50 million clicks. You will then end up with a device in your hands fast, precise and extremely ergonomic. But be careful: you can only use it in-game. In fact, the mouse cannot be used to navigate the Xbox One menus. For that you will have to settle for the keyboard or the classic pad.

Watch your wrist

In itself, the design of the Razer Turret isn't bad at all. The keyboard, metal, it is really very solid and accommodates a handy magnetic plane to which the mouse is anchored. A solution that allows you to use the Razer Turret while sitting comfortably on your sofa and believe me, it works wonderfully.

What hasn't completely convinced me is the general convenience of the magnetic chuck. Yes, that's right, this surface exerts different forces depending on the area: the right end is designed to hold the mouse in place when not in use, which is why the force exerted is greater, while the left side, designed to be used. as a mousepad, the magnetism is softer, so you will be free to move around without problems, or almost. I say almost because in reality, in the long run, this struggle between your wrist and the magnetic plane will have some consequences. In short, no problem if you play a couple of hours but if you plan to use Razer Turret for longer you will notice the effort your hand and wrist are making.

Definitely better keyboard ergonomics. In fact, the front allows you to rest your wrist without problems. Of course, it is metal and not leatherette, but all in all it is comfortable.

Finally, don't forget Chroma lighting which performs two different functions. The first, the classic one, is to give a touch of color to your equipment, a color that you can change using Razer Synapse for PC, while the second is related to actual gaming. Some of the games available in fact use RGB lighting to give information related to your session, such as the remaining health or the status of your troops.

Non solo Xbox One

Razer Turret is designed for Xbox One, but that doesn't mean you can use it with any title. At the moment they are about twenty compatible titles, including Gears 5, Fornite, Warframe, Minecraft and DayZ. You can find on the official website the list of video games to have fun with, a list that I wish will become longer and longer.

But what's it like playing with this bundle? If you are already used to the coupled mouse and keyboard, you will immediately find yourself at ease. The approach is more difficult for those who normally use a controller but it will take you a few minutes to understand the advantage of this bundle in the face of tower defense and games that normally benefit from classic peripherals.

Naturally nothing prevents you from using the Razer Turret even with a PC. In fact, the bundle is also compatible with Windows 10. Just connect the receiver to your computer and that's it. Among other things, it is also possible to use mouse and keyboard separately. In fact, you can turn on only the device you need, thus saving the battery of the other.

Speaking of autonomy, the two devices should support you for about forty hours, then you can use the microUSB connector of the mouse and Type-C of the keyboard to recharge them.

Razer Turret: buy it or not buy it?

The Razer Turret is undoubtedly a great product. Excellent build quality, high performance and ease of use: all features that once again corroborate Razer's reputation.

The problem is the cost. In Italy it has not yet been announced but in the USA it is 249,99 dollars, quite a lot if you plan to use the bundle only with the home console. The situation is different if you plan to use Turret with your PC too. At that point it could become a good mouse and keyboard combination at a high price but all in all justified by everyday use.
