LG Free Tone FN7 review

Le LG Tone Free FN7 are the heirs of the Tone Free FN6, released last year and equipped with a rather unique function: sanitation using UV-C technology, cleverly inserted inside the small case that contains them. The FN7 naturally incorporate this popular feature by adding another particularly requested one: active noise cancellation.

The result? Let's find out in this one review of the LG Tone Free FN7.

Plastic body, discreet design and low weight: the LG Tone Free FN7 are very similar to the previous model. The only small addition is a bump at the top of the headset, which houses the touch sensor.

Once worn they are very comfortable but beware: remember that I am in-ear, that is, with the silicone rubber that enters your ear canal. It is not a defect, mind you, but not everyone appreciates this form factor.

Once you have established that the shape is right for you, you will have in your hands a product that adapts well to your ear and that is stable enough even when used for physical activity. Plus they boast IPX4 certification, so they resist splashing water and sweat.

We conclude the aesthetic overview with coloring. There are two variants currently on the market: black and white. The price is of course the same. Let's talk about €199 which place the LG Free Tone FN7 in the high end of the market.

The case with UV-C technology

The review of the LG Tone Free FN7. True wireless headphones that clean themselves

We anticipate it immediately: UV-C technology is the most interesting aspect and convincing of these true wireless headphones. First of all for the undisputed usefulness. In a world that is now increasingly attentive to the sanitization of objects and the health of the individual, the Free Tone FN7 offers extra safety, killing 99,99% of bacteria in just 10 minutes. Currently they are the only ones to offer this plus which is even more useful if related to the form factor of the earphones. In fact, the in-ear format tends to get dirty more easily and the UV-Cs eliminate part of the problem without you noticing.

The second aspect to highlight is the implementation of this technology. Nothing intrusive and no add-ons. The UV-Cs are located inside the case, which remains compact and easy to carry.
You will notice them because, once you open the case, you will notice two LED lights, positioned under each earphone. Don't be alarmed: UV-C technology is activated only when you close the lid and recharge the case via cable, so you don't have to worry about any ultraviolet exposure.

LG Free Tone FN7 review: how do you control them?

The review of the LG Tone Free FN7. True wireless headphones that clean themselves

Like most of the true wireless headphones in this range, the LG Free Tone FN7 features i touch controls e the dedicated application which together give you full control over the earphones.

Let's start with the first ones, which are improved compared to the previous version. The new tactile sensor in fact makes the FN7 more reactive, so you don't waste time changing tracks or activating the voice assistant on duty.

The other functions are delegated to theTone Free application, currently available only in English.
From here you can access the 4 presets made in collaboration with Meridian, an English company specializing in the production of high quality audio components and systems. The available profiles are Immersive, Bass Boost, Natural and Treble Boost, which act on highs, lows and voices in a different way. The difference is not marked but still perceptible, especially with the Bass Boost.
They also exist two presets that you can edit and customize according to your personal taste, so if no modality satisfies you you can create your own.

The functionality of the application does not end there. We have the management of volume, touch controls, notifications and noise cancellation, which can only be activated from here.

The section completes the picture Tone Free Lab, an area that encompasses a series of experimental features. Or at least, it will in the future. To date, in fact, there is only Connection Priority Mode, which gives priority to headphones over other devices.

Audio quality and noise cancellation

The review of the LG Tone Free FN7. True wireless headphones that clean themselves

We had appreciated the results of the collaboration with Meridian also last year and with the FN7 things have not changed. The technology of the British company makes listening to music quite enjoyable, with the voices that are clear and crystalline.
On the other hand, the basses that satisfy in the Bass Boost mode are not yet perfect but not surprising.
Attention instead to the highs of the Tremble Boost mode because they tend to unbalance the performance of the LG Free Tone FN7 a little.

Overall anyway the acoustic experience is good, perhaps more suitable for those who use them a lot for phone calls than for music lovers. Speaking of phone calls, the microphones perform well and no one has had any problems listening to us even in the presence of background noise.

We end with the active noise cancellation. Not the best on the market but he's doing pretty well, with some sounds being filtered out better than others. We also have theAmbient Sound, that is the modality that amplifies external sounds to keep you in contact with the environment.

Autonomy

The LG Free Tone FN7 give us a few more hours than the previous model. We have indeed about 7 hours of use which increases to 20 with the use of the case. A good result that supports the fast charging that these true wireless headphones are equipped with: with 5 minutes you have an hour of listening.

Finally, we point out that the case also supports wireless charging, in addition to wired charging with a USB-C cable.

LG Tone Free FN7 review: is it worth it?

It is useless to deny it: what distinguishes the LG Free Tone FN7 is the sanitization with ultraviolet rays. This feature makes them unique in their kind and suitable for those who pay particular attention to this aspect.
In fact, net of UV-C technology, we find ourselves in our hands with an excellent quality product, with a satisfactory yield and an elegant design.
Defects? The noise cancellation can definitely be improved and the English-only app is a real shame.
