Hearthstone Scholomance Academy Review

Hearthstone is now 6 years old. The collectible card game of Blizzard, spin-off of the famous video game series Warcraft, it was released in March 2014 and since then we have seen the introduction of expansions and adventures of all kinds. However, not all of them have made their way into the hearts of fans, leading the game to be less and less popular. Of course, this doesn't mean Hearthstone is disappearing. There are still a lot of active players, there is no shortage of tournaments and the development team is doing everything possible to awaken the interest of the fans.

The Scholomance Academy is the latest attempt to rekindle the fire of passion that inhabits the lovers of the title. Released on August 6, the expansion has brought with it a number of interesting news. Let's find out which ones.

The news of The Scholomance Academy

As per tradition, the expansion brings with it ben 135 new cards, inspired by a popular World of Warcraft dungeon: scholomance. However, we will not find a damned and threatening place. The new Hearthstone content takes us back in time to when Scholomance was a real academy of magic populated by the inevitable apprentices.

The review of The Scholomance Academy, Hearthstone's latest expansionTo accompany the new cards there are also the news regarding the game dynamics. The first is Education, that is spells that cost only one mana and that allow you to find other cards; in addition we will also get a discount of 1 hand point on the first card of that type that we are going to use. We know, it seems rather complex but in practice the operation is extremely simple and capable of produce interesting effects for the different classes.

The Scholomance Academy also introduces another kind of cards, the bi-class ones. In fact, until now we could have two kinds of cards: for all categories or for a specific one. We now have cards that combine the characteristics of two classes and which can be used by both heroes. We liked the idea a lot and it will certainly help players to indulge a bit in creating new decks.

Finally we have the Magical Impulse, a keyword that can characterize both creatures and weapons. Even in this case, the operation is quite intuitive: after casting a spell, the minion with Magic Impulse can earn a bonus. If used at the right moment this dynamic can make a difference but beware, it is not "stackable": it triggers Magical Impulse only once and only with the first spell.

Has the meta changed?

The review of The Scholomance Academy, Hearthstone's latest expansionWhenever the Team 5 releases a new expansion for Hearthstone we ask ourselves the same question. Yes, it's nice to have new dynamics and new cards, but therebalance has been upset? Such as? How many? These are all legitimate questions if you are a passionate Hearthstone player. Fans will then be fully aware of the mistakes made in the past: it takes very little to unbalance the game and find themselves with classes clearly superior to the others.

In reality, the Scholomance Academy does not completely change the cards on the table but certainly there are classes that benefit from the expansion more than others. In particular the Paladin is now decidedly more interesting and combative while il Druid e the magician further increase their power thanks to the new cards.

But these are the most obvious changes. In fact, all categories benefit from the new expansion which, in fact, lays the foundations for a future that could really revive the Blizzard title by offering players an increasingly varied destination and even more stimulating game dynamics.
