Wiko View 5, a fearful autonomy

Wiko View 5, a fearful autonomy

If you are looking for a cheap smartphone, under € 200, but with great autonomy, you might be in the right place. Wiko's View family is built around two pillars: a great autonomy with a small price. And the latest model confirms this. Let's find out Wiko View 5 together in our review.

Wiko View 5 review: it loses the notch

Wiko View 5 comes with a display LCD da 6,55”, slightly larger than the 6,52 "of the previous model. It also loses the notch, a bit bulky, in exchange for a forum placed at the top left to house the front camera, but not only. Indeed Wiko has cleverly used the small hole to show the battery charge level, with a circle that perfectly surrounds the camera. The panel has a HD + resolution, 721 × 1600 pixels, has excellent brightness and is of good quality, especially considering the price range of this Wiko View 5.

Turning the smartphone we find the plastic body that encloses the rear photographic compartment. The design doesn't have any features that make it special or iconic, but it is overall pleasant. We didn't really like the ergonomics, which decreases compared to the Wiko View 4 as the weight increases by more than 20 grams: 201 grams total and they all feel.

Also on the back we also find the biometric sensor for impressions, which allows a quick and reliable release. What we cannot say instead for unlocking with 2D face recognition.

On the lower part of the body we find the entrance Type-C 2.0 for charging, the speaker and a microphone, on the upper one instead the 3,5mm headphone jack. On the right side, on the other hand, there is the volume rocker, the power key and a key dedicated to the Google Assistant: despite being knurled, its position - placed between the volume rocker and the power button - means that it is often pressed by mistake.

Few updates under the body

Wiko View 5, a fearful autonomy

The Wiko View 5 hardware is almost unchanged from the previous model. In fact we find the same processor Mediatek 6762D Helio A25 octa-core da 1,8GHz and the same 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory expandable via microSD. As for the GPU we find a PowerVR GE8320. Wiko View 5 runs well, is well optimized in terms of consumption, but it is definitely not a sliver and is sometimes a bit "thoughtful". We did not notice any particular lag, but often the transition between one screen and another occurs with some delay.

Surely the presence of a Android 10 very similar to the stock version it allows an overall quite fluid user experience despite the cheap CPU. Speaking of software, at startup you will find many pre-installed applications that you can uninstall quickly.

As for connectivity, the Wiko View 5 is equipped with Bluetooth 4.2 e radio FM, the NFC chip is missing. Compared to the previous generation, this Wiko is now equipped with the dual-band ac WiFi module, with also support for 5GHz networks.

Autonomy is truly record-breaking: thanks to 5000mAh of battery, you will be able to end a stressful day by consuming about half the charge. With average use, however, you will easily cover three days. It is not equipped with fast charging and in the package there is the 10W charger.

The cameras go out of their way

The cameras upgrade, with four sensors: a main one from 48 megapixel, one wide angle from 8 megapixel, one macro from 5 megapixel and a camera from 2 megapixel for bokeh shots. The results are good, always considering that it is an inexpensive smartphone.

Like all smartphones in this price range, it gives its best in optimal light conditions, but it does not perform badly even in low light conditions. Speaking of which, the Wiko View 5 is equipped with the night mode, which does not increase the brightness of the photo much. The wide-angle camera has a field of 120 °. The smartphone is capable of recording videos in FullHD fino at 30fps good quality, with stabilization that leaves something to be desired.

Wiko View 5 review: buy it or not

We would like to recommend this Wiko View 5 to anyone who needs one cheap smartphone but with good autonomy. This applies both to those who do not have a large budget and to those who want a “forklift” smartphone to always have with them. The strong point, in fact, is the autonomy that easily covers three days. Too bad for the processor remained unchanged compared to the previous generation: an upgrade would have allowed greater performance and better challenge the competition. Wiko View 5 can be found online for around € 150, in the Midnight Blue, Pine Green and Peach Gold colors.
