A database inside the server was revealed AWS ElasticSearch which allowed to discover a scam against Amazon and its customers. From what emerged, some companies would pay users in exchange for positive reviews for products on sale on the portal. Aukey and Mpow disappear from Amazon: did they have fake reviews?

Amazon removes Aukey and Mpow stores, were they involved in the fake reviews scam?

The database, discovered by Safety Detectives, was unprotected and contained a lot of information. In the 7GB of data were present email addresses, 75000 links to Amazon accounts and profiles, phone numbers, account PayPal and so on. Some companies promised to reimburse the purchased product via Paypal in exchange for fake reviews, obviously five-star, on Amazon.

A few days after the publication of the details by Safety Detectives, Amazon has removed dozens of companies from its store, especially accessory manufacturers such as Aukey and Mpow. The companies in question produce chargers, cables, headphones and other smartphone accessories and gadgets.

In the past few hours, looking for an Aukey or Mpow product, no results were displayed and a generic error was displayed when accessing the Amazon stores of the two brands. Currently the two stores are visible, but most of the products are inserted as "Currently not available".

It is not clear if these two companies were participating in the scam discovered in recent days against Amazon, since Safety Detectives did not publish the names of the merchants involved. But the two companies have been mentioned in some posts leaked on social networks, so it is likely that Amazon is carrying out internal investigations.

We remember that Amazon's guidelines prohibit to write fake reviews in exchange for a reward, discount, free product or other compensation. Furthermore, users who write untruthful reviews can resort to criminal penalties also quite expensive.
