BQ Aquaris X2 Pro review: how is the new Spanish smartphone?

BQ Aquaris X2 Pro comes on the market with a new design, a new processor and above all with the dual camera, yet it failed to convince us like the previous model. We explain why in this review.

The triumph of glass

BQ Aquaris X2 Pro follows in the footsteps of its predecessor by proposing a glass back cover - which houses, among other things, the convenient fingerprint reader -, while the frame is in aluminum. In short, excellent materials assembled in an impeccable way and capable of guaranteeing both water resistance (with IP52 certification) and a excellent grip. Good then the oleophobic treatment that allows you to have a device practically free of fingerprints.

The keys present are the classic ones: we have the volume rocker and the on and off key, both located on the right. The profile on the left houses the trolley for the double Sim, while on the lower one we find the 3,5 mm jack for headphones, the USB Type-C input for charging and the speaker.

On the other hand, the display is different. This time in fact we have a 5,65-inch screen with an aspect ratio of 18: 9 and a brightness that reaches i 650 thread. The result is a very readable display even in the sun, with well-calibrated colors and quite deep blacks. There is also Night Brightness mode which filters out blue light so you can use your smartphone without straining your eyes.

Performance, software and battery

Difficult to complain about the performance of this device. The version I tested alongside 4GB RAM to the processor Snapdragon 660 and 64 GB of memory. The result is a device that allows you to perform all normal operations with extreme fluidity: You can work, play, text and surf the Internet without any problem. Software also makes it possible. In fact, I remind you that BQ Aquaris X2 Pro is a device Android One, which means that it comes with the stock version of Google's operating system. This allows it to be lightweight, downright quick, and a lot easier to upgrade.

The telephone sector is excellent, while the battery is satisfactory but not exactly surprising. Aquaris X2 Pro allows you to get to the end of the day with medium use, while it tends to fail in the late afternoon with heavy use. In short, if you mistreat him you will need a pit stop before going out for dinner.

Promoted but can be improved

Let's talk now about the dual rear cameras. In fact, we have two Samsung sensors available, a 12 megapixel one, with aperture F / 1.8, and one of the 5 megapixel, to which depth is entrusted. Together they guarantee absolutely good shots during the day. Also present HDR +, even if it is a bit to improve, photos with bokeh effect and even Google Lens; for the more experienced there is a Manual mode that allows you to adjust the most common parameters.

The photographic sector, however, is not free from defects. In fact, I expected something more from photos in the dark as well as from selfies. The 8-megapixel front camera is indeed satisfying but not particularly exciting.

And the videos? You get to 4K and 30fps, while for 60 fps and digital stabilization you have to stop at Full HD. The result? Even in this discreet but still improvable.

We conclude the considerations on the multimedia sector by talking about audio. In fact, the speaker he offers is promoted interesting bass and a very high volume. Also on board you will also find the FM radio, so you don't have to consume data to hear your favorite stations.

To buy it or not to buy it?

[

Of course, the refined design, the quality materials, the excellent performance and the adoption of Android One can help it, but what makes it really attractive is the philosophy of BQ, the desire to support a European brand and the desire to support projects. educational courses promoted by the company
