Can this tablet really replace a PC?

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite recensione

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite it's the budget version of that Galaxy Tab S6 that we liked so much last year. A solid, performing tablet and accompanied by two very useful accessories: the pen - already included in the package - and the Book Cover, sold separately.
But all this allows him to to replace a notebook? To find out, we tested it for a couple of weeks. We tell you how it went.

Our video review

The main features

The packaging of Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite includes, in addition of course to the tablet, the USB-C cable for charging, the power supply and the S Pen. As anticipated, the Book Cover that no, it does not contain any keyboard but allows you to keep the device safe, to accommodate the pen and to keep the tablet in different positions, so as to adapt it to your needs. All this by spending 79 euro, which are added to the 399 euros for the WiFi-only version or 459 euros for the LTE variant.

But let's get back to the subject of this review. Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite boasts a low thickness - only 7 mm – and weighs less than 500 grams. P.You can then hold it without difficulty with one hand, at least for a short time.

The body is then in aluminum, the quality is very high and the tablet is really very solid.
The frame houses the 3,5 mm jack, the speakers and a USB-C port without video output. This means that you will not be able to stream movies on a larger screen and that you will not have Samsung DeX available. Then there are the volume rocker, the power button and the SIM slot - in the LTE version - and the microSD.

We also point out the presence, on the long left side, of a magnet that should anchor the S Pen to the body. But be careful because it is not very stable: when you put the terminal in your backpack or bag it is very likely that the stylus will come off.

On the front we have a 10,4-inch display. It behaves fairly well but don't expect the same performance as the one present on the Galaxy Tab S6 or on the Korean company's smartphones. The fingerprint reader under the display is also missing: to unlock the tablet you will have to use the classic PIN or face recognition.

Let's talk now about what you can't see. Under the body we have the Exynos 9611 processor, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal memory, expandable with microSD, and a 7040 mAh battery that guarantees you about 2 days of intense use.

Finally, the operating system is Android 10 with One UI 2.1. No surprises then but the solid certainties to which we have become accustomed

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite review: can I use it instead of a notebook?

Can this tablet really replace a PC?Let's come to the initial question: can I use it instead of a PC?

Yes and no. It really depends on your routine.

If you usually use very heavy programs dedicated to notebooks, it is clear that you will never be able to convert to a tablet. Both for required performance and for software compatibility. Think for example of those who edit videos like us, those who do 3D renderings or those who need the Adobe suite.

It is very suitable for a student instead who wants to focus on mobility, especially when in university. First of all, you can use the S Pen to take notes, thus digitizing your notes without giving up the pleasure of classic writing. Nothing stops you from connecting an external Bluetooth keyboard, so you can type just like you would on a notebook.
Even the rear camera, 8 megapixel, can come in handy in a class. One click is enough to immortalize the teacher's slides, perhaps to be integrated into your notes.
You can also combine two different applications, with a few notes on the right and the pantry on the left.

To all this you can then add the features of the S Pen that we have also seen on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10, such as cropping screenshots, translating text or creating a live message with GIFs.

Let's not forget multimedia.
A student also needs to be distracted. He can do this using the S Pen, which with its 4096 pressure levels is perfect for drawing, but also using the 10-inch screen and AKG audio with Dolby Atmos equalization to enjoy movies and TV series.

Finally, don't forget the advantages in terms of portability, responsiveness and connectivity.  Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is lightweight, is always ready to use because you don't have to turn it on like a PC every time and it can be equipped with a SIM, so you are independent from WiFi.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite review: buy it or not?

With 399 euros for the WiFi model or 459 euros for the LTE model, you take it home a really interesting product. It is clear that it cannot replace a real computer if you need dedicated and above all expensive software in terms of resources. But if your needs are related to mobility, navigation and the ability to take notes, know that it could really give you some satisfaction.
