You go on vacation, regularly take out your faithful Google Maps companion to help you find yourself in an unfamiliar place, when suddenly: a problem! Don't panic, we'll list all of the app's issues and their solutions for you.
To go on vacation or reach an unknown place, everyone has their little ritual. Planning ahead is the key to success for some, while others like to play the modern day adventurer and rely on their wits to get by.
Where we all meet is in having a plan B. And if the elders still knew how to read a Michelin map, the regulars of the smartphone rather always have Google Maps with them and know the smallest tricks. .
Application oh so practical, but what happens if it starts to crash? No worries dear community, we've given you a list of common Google Maps issues and how to fix them.
My position on Google Maps is not loading or is wrong
Don't forget to perform the silliest test ever: make sure your GPS is activated on your phone. To do this, go to Settings> Location and activate it.
If your position is imprecise, you have in these parameters a section “Mode” in which you can select three choices, which are as follows:
- High accuracy : Uses GPS, Wi-Fi, mobile network, and all of your phone's technologies to accurately determine where you are. The preferred choice for precise GPS navigation, on foot or by car.
- Battery saving : Use only Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and network to determine your location. This choice is perfect when it comes to using Maps to find points of interest around you without necessarily being guided by the application. The same when you use it with Android Wear or Google Now for example. Consumes the least battery.
- Device only : only uses GPS. Very good if you have to do a long road but want to conserve as much battery as possible at the same time. Quite precise to follow the highways, less for the small alleys.
If, however, these choices do not change your problem, and Maps continues to load your position in a vacuum, you will need to use an application to recalibrate your GPS. Many applications allow this, we will be using GPS Fix in this case.
You just have to start the process (which usually takes 2/3 minutes, but can take up to ten minutes) for the application to reset your GPS fix and put it in order. Nothing is ever finished on this aspect: test other applications of this type, one of them could solve your problem.
If your position is good, but your orientation is not, it could be a compass issue. Do not hesitate to go through our tutorial to improve the accuracy of your GPS to adjust this.
Maps maps do not load
Who has never seen this beautiful screen of death, which characterizes the fact that Google Maps has failed to load its maps? Even if very often, the error comes from the simple fact that we are not connected to the internet (or in airplane mode like this example), it can also happen for no reason.
This occurrence is quite rare, but it should be noted: it is possible that during an update, you end up with this screen. And although the application should normally load its new maps, it does not.
Do not panic ! Simply :
- Go to Parameters from your phone
- Section Applications
- Search Maps
- (Android 5.0+) Go to Warehousing
- Click on “Clear cache”
As a last resort, if the last Google Maps update really got you in trouble, you can uninstall the updates by clicking on the three dots at the top right> Uninstall updates.
Google Maps refuses to launch
The same advice applies in this case. In Settings> Applications> Maps, do not hesitate to force stop the application before relaunching it. If this is not sufficient, clear the cache by following the previous procedure. As a last resort, uninstall updates.
My information has disappeared from Google Maps
Google services are all interconnected, and Maps is no exception. Also, when you set an appointment in your calendar with an address, it also appears on your Maps.
But it also allows you to store addresses, such as those of your friends for example, for future use. Enough to personalize your application as much as possible. Can't find them anymore? Do not panic.
Indeed, the application sometimes disconnects from your Google account, even though it is closely linked to the system. So all you have to do is open the application, press the “hamburger” menu at the top left, and connect your account in the window that opens (see annotations on the photo).
